You Can be a Friend by Tony and Lauren Dungy
Jade is excited that her new neighbors have finally moved in. Jade is even more excited that there is a girl her age to play with. When Jade discovers Hannah is in a wheelchair, she worries that Hannah might not be able to participate in certain fun activities, such as attend Jade's upcoming birthday party to a water park. After becoming fast friends, however, Jade quickly realizes that Hannah is a terrific, funny and awesome friend. Jade decides to switch her birthday celebration to the zoo instead so that Hannah will not be left out.
I really enjoyed this book. There are not many book out there that are geared toward people with handicaps. This book teaches a child how they can show true empathy toward friends who may be different.
