Tips from Professionals on How to Tame Frizzy Hair
Professional Hairstylist and Ferrum Inventor Barbara Abbasi Provides Tips to Tame Summer Frizz
With the first day of summer right around the corner, we embark upon a season that requires the most attention to your daily hairstyling regimen—the season of summer frizz. Don’t spend your mornings in frustration, piling on oily products to tame that unmanageable frizz. Anything can be managed when it comes to hair care, along with some expert help.
Santa Monica-based American Beauty Hair Salon owner, expert colorist and inventor of the Ferrum Professional Styler Barbara Abbasi has provided tips to help tame summer frizz.
Cut It Out—Don’t Go Short
Though the scorching summer heat will have you ready to shorten those locks, keep your hair long. Short hair is more likely to bulk up in hot humid weather. So save the new do for a humid-free season like Fall. Leave those locks long!
Showering Your Routine with Changes
To make sure you steer clear of summer frizz, do not over wash your hair. Try changing your regular routine. Natural oils will help tame your hair. Also, use a good conditioner and leave it on for a while before rinsing. When rinsing, leave a very light layer in your hair to help combat frizz. Add a small amount moisture block to your towel dried hair. Change it up!
Using the Right Tools
It is all in the tools. Using the right tools can quickly tame and rid you of a “hairy situation”. My recommendation is the Ferrum Professional Styler (www.ferrumiron.com) and I assure you it's like no tool you've ever used. What makes Ferrum different? One part non-heated padded fabric element and one part tourmaline coated ceramic plate. The real distinction of this tool is the fabric padded side. The fabric is a combination of lightweight, anti-static polymers that allows the hair to "breathe" while straightening. The Ferrum styler will allow your hair to retain more of its natural moisture and shine, while eliminating frizz.
Steer Clear of Hair Volumizing Products
Stay away from products that give you more volume and body, resulting in summer frizz. Go light on the products and do your research!
Shift Your Focus
The clock is ticking. It is almost 8:30 a.m. And you are nowhere near ready for work. Sometimes, the solution is to shift your focus. Put your hair in an elegant twist and play up your makeup or those fabulous long earrings you recently purchased. Channel your inner Lauren Conrad and quickly section a part of your hair, braid it and create a messy bun. Play up your outfit to match your look.
ABOUT BARBARA ABBASI: Hairstylist and Ferrum Inventor
Remarkably, Barbara was a recent immigrant who spoke no English when she opened the salon more than two decades ago. It's easy to see why customers flock to the salon: Barbara is a down-to-earth artisan who is genuinely devoted to her work. She has been working to develop the concept of the Ferrum flatiron for the past decade. The idea arose from her dissatisfaction with traditional flat irons which left hair damaged and flat. Her concept was to develop a product that was healthier for the hair and resulted in a look that more closely resembled a professional salon blow dry. Barbara went through several prototypes and sourced over 20 different fabrics until she found the perfect combination of technology that would produce salon perfect results. "Styling hair is an art, not just a job," she says. "The truth is that I love what I do."
