I have not always had an easy time trying to get my son, Braxton (who is now seven years old) to brush his teeth. In fact I dreaded that part of my day because I had to actually sit on him and take advantage of his mouth being opened when he was screaming to get a toothbrush in there. That lasted until he was four. He is much better now, but it certainly helps to have fun, colorful toothbrushes and child-friendly mouth rinses from FireFly® to make brushing his teeth a fun task for Braxton.
FireFly® toothbrushes are the number one selling kids’ toothbrush in the country. We were sent samples of their Anti-Cavity Mouth Rinse and their Light up Toothbrushes to review.
Anti-Cavity Mouth Rinse
- Convenient “No Mess” cup attached to the bottom of the bottle that makes measuring the right quantity simple.
- Easy to use “Fun Pump” features your favorite Angry Birds characters
- Available in Tasty Bubble Gum and Stella Berry flavors
- Sugar-free
- Alcohol-free
- Contains fluoride to help fight cavities and strengthen enamel
Light up Toothbrush
- Light up toothbrush encourages children to brush for the recommended 2 minutes which help to form healthy brushing habits
- Spider-Man themed toothbrush has soft bristles
- Flashes for 60 seconds and turns off automatically signaling children to stop brushing the top row of teeth and begin brushing the bottom row
- Batteries included last the life of the toothbrush and cannot be replaced
Our Experience: Braxton loves his light up Spiderman toothbrush. He is learning to brush his teeth until the lights on the toothbrush stop blinking. This helps him to brush for longer and it is like a game to him. He loves to use the mouth rinse as well. He especially loves the bubblegum flavor. It makes him feel grown up to be able to use 'mouthwash' like a grown up! I am very happy that it is no longer a challenge to get my child to brush his teeth, and that he is also getting the benefits of fluoride for his teeth without a fuss.
Win! One winner will receive a bottle of Firefly Anti-Cavity Mouth Rinse and a Light up Toothbrush in the character of their choice. (ARV: $18.99)

Well- they CHEWED on the toothbrush right from the start, about one.. hahaha Like puppies! but the real brushing was not til much later. And they love to brush their teeth with the kid's toothpaste, the NON flouride one of course. I kept them on that stuff forever. They still prefer it to the normal pastes. So they brush very well.
My daughter was three years old.
Our daughter was 2-1/2 when she started brushing her teeth; she did not mind it.
My oldest is 4 and he can brush his teeth himself but I watch and help just to make sure he gets them all super clean!
probably 5 or 6 when they could do it themselves
I have a special daughter that took 10 years to really get it right!
3yrs old
My son is 3yrs old and LOVES brushing his teeth..borderline obsessive but I wouldnt have it any other way!
My kids ages 5 and 10 still both need supervision to brush. My son, as a toddler, hated brushing so much that the dentist taught me how to pin him down with my legs to brush his teeth. It might sound pretty aggressive but that was the only way to do it.
mind are 1 and 3 and still need help
My son still hates brushing his teeth - anything would help.

They were about 4 years old
Around 4 years old! My kids like to brush their teeth ( I always try to find them cool tooth brushes and I think that helps)
My daughter was around 4 years old. She didn't mind brushing her teeth at all. When I set the table for all the meals I also put her toothbrush beside fork, this way she was use to just doing it right after a meal!
My sons were all around 6 when they brushed their teeth on their own with guidance. Before that - I did it for and with them. :)
I still help my son at 3 years old
My grandson started at 4 and still at 7 I have to remind him to brush right and moniter him brushing!
I helped my kids until they turned 7 years old but honestly I still check up on them occasionally because it is so important that they learn good habits and continue them.
My son was 6 years old when he could.
My son is still learning to do it on his own but is determined to try on his own!
My daughter was 3 when she began to brush her teeth herself although I still help her now and then.
They did hate it! I don't remember their age.
My kids started brushing their teeth by themselves when they were about 3. My grandson started at 2. My son hated brushing his teeth and this would have helped a lot.
We never had any problems with toothbrushing, thankfully! But I have a friend who's son absolutely hated it. She struggled and struggled, but in the end she had some success in trying to make the process more fun rather than traumatic! I definitely think these kind of products can be a big help in engaging kids in the process a bit, and making it less intimidating.
