Budget Friendly Home Improvement Tips and Tricks
There's no better time to be thinking of home improvement than than after the holiday rush. The New Year is a time to set goals and start fresh! Home improvement doesn't have to cost a lot of money! There are simple ways that you can improve your home that are affordable. Sometimes simple changes can make all of the difference in improving the look and feel of your home. I have listed several budget friendly home improvement ideas below.
Paint your kitchen cabinets. There's no easier way to update a kitchen than painting the cabinets. Swap out drawer and cabinet handles make a huge difference. It is amazing how these simple changes help to make your kitchen look modern and clean.
Paint your living or family room. This is the main room of the house, where people gather the most. Choose an uplifting, neutral shade of paint, such as light grey, beige or cream shades. To have the biggest color impact, paint your trim/ baseboards. Update your blinds, or buy inexpensive curtains. Hang a mirror on one wall. This will open up the room and make it feel more spacious.
Change lightswitch and electrical outlet plates throughout the house. This easy task makes so much difference! You can find pretty plates that aren't that expensive at any hardware store or on Amazon.
Give your Bathroom a mini-makeover. A fresh coat of paint in a light, happy color (such as light blue or yellow) will brighten up the bathroom. Buy a new shower curtain to match, and a pretty soap dish, or hand soap dispenser. Switch out the light switch plates and electrical outlet plates with brand new ones. Also update the drawer and cabinet handles. You won't believe the difference these simple changes will make.
Add in a few shelves. A few extra shelves in a blank space can make a big difference. You can use them to display framed family photos as well as sentimental knick-knacks that deserve to be seen.
Update light fixtures. Upgrading lighting in the main rooms can make the whole space feel more expensive. Get rid of old looking ceiling fixtures and swap those out with new ones.Replace old lamp and/or lamp shades with modern ones that you can find for pretty cheap.
Add mirrors throughout the house! Mirrors are the simplest way to make any space feel bigger and lighter. They don't even have to be expensive!
Declutter! Make it a goal to clean out one closet, cupboard (or even a 'junk' drawer) each day. Go throughout your house and just throw things away! If you haven't used the item in a year, why keep it? Toss it! Chances are, you will not even miss it! It will all add up in the long run, and you will be very happy that you did. If this is a monumental task for you, perhaps consider getting the entire family together to help. That way, you will have backup and support when it comes to deciding is an item is worth keeping or not. This can actually be a fun family activity, as well as a motivating factor to get things done. For larger jobs, it might now hurt to rent a dumpster. Eagle Dumpster Rental has great deals on their dumpster rentals.
