Kids can quickly become bored and restless when cooped up inside on a rainy day. Rather than allowing them to climb the walls, you should encourage them to have a little fun within the home.
You’ll be glad to know there are many activities that can occupy your children when the weather takes a turn for the worst. Check out the six ways to entertain your kids on a rainy day.
1. Build a Fort
If your children want to escape the home but can’t go outside, allow them to create a brand-new environment by building a fort in their bedroom. Grab a blanket, cushions, and maybe even a large cardboard box and create a unique den where they can go to watch movies or play games.
2. Bake Together
Spending the day inside doesn’t need to be dull. All you need to do is find fun baking recipes, gather up your ingredients and create some delicious treats together in the kitchen. Your kids will love getting their hands sticky and decorating cookies and cakes, and they’ll forget all about playing in the outdoors.
3. Watch Fun YouTube Videos
The internet is filled with many videos your kids are bound to love. The hours will quickly pass by when watching a fun YouTube Channel, such as Shawn Toy Car. Plus, as they’re immersing themselves in a fun video, you can enjoy a little downtime or clean the home without disruption.
4. Create a Family Magazine
Grab some pencils and paper and encourage your kids to create a family magazine. They’ll not only need to decide on what stories to feature, but they’ll need to write the articles and draw pictures.
Maybe they could interview a grandparent over the phone for a story, or they could glue photos of the family into their first edition. They could even add in a fun puzzle or a joke. It’s a great way to occupy your child’s time while sparking their creativity.
5. Host an Indoor Picnic
The rain doesn’t have to stand in the way of a fun picnic. Pull out some blankets, set out dishes and fill the space with drinks, snacks, and napkins. You could even ask your kids to bring along their favorite toy as a guest, so you might need to set out a few extra plates!
6. Enjoy a Disco
Turn down the lights, push back the furniture, turn on the disco ball and dance the rainy day away. Every family member should pick five songs they love to add into a playlist, which you should put on shuffle before busting a move. You could even get everyone to try limbo dancing, the tango, or the can-can – and you can then hand out awards for the best and worst dancer.
As you can see, there are many ways to entertain your kids when the weather is a little miserable outside, from finding fun videos for them to watch alone on a tablet computer to enjoying a disco with all the family.
