I love learning about natural beauty remedies and organic ingredients that I can use at home to create my own beauty products! Have you ever heard about Maguey Sap

I just learned about 100% Organic Maguey Sap that is the perfect ingredient for at-home beauty masks and scrubs. Salviana has recently introduced their product that is 100% Organic, Vegan, Non-GMO and Chemical Free. When combined with common ingredients (oats, salt, or sugar), it results in a scrub that leaves skin polished, glowing and refreshed.

About Raw Maguey Sap:

The MAGUEY is an ancestral plant that lives in a semi-desert area, with little to no rain fall. It reaches maturity between 8-12 years old, and flourishes only once before ending its lifecycle.

It survives in this hostile environment by storing a nutritious sap in its wide and thorny leaves called “pencas”.

Check out these amazing DIY recipes, developed by Denielle Nicole Wegrzyn for Salviana:

How many photos do you reckon you take in a year? One rough estimate for 2017 was that 1.2 trillion digital photos were snapped throughout the year - and that was in fact a pretty conservative estimate based on one billion of the five billion smartphone owners across the world using the camera function on their phone to snap an average of three a day.

What exactly can you do with all those photos of your kids, your family, your friends and those fun nights out with the girls? There are only so many photos you can upload to Instagram and Facebook after all.

So why not put some of them up around the house? Photo displays can be cheap and easy ways to show off your memories and brighten up a room with truly personal pieces of art.

Here are five ways to display your photos

Display your photos in coasters

Nobody likes coffee rings on their brand new table. Prevent it from happening with a set of homemade coasters. Simply print out the photos you want to use, fix them to white tiles using decoupage glue and then when that has dried, apply more decoupage glue over the top, adding three layers with two hours between each application. Once they’ve dried overnight, apply three layers of clear acrylic sealant to insure they are completely waterproof and prevent indents from appearing and leave to dry again, after which you’ll have your own homemade coasters.

Create your own calendar

The household calendar is an indispensable way of keeping track with what is going on. Most of us use a calendar at least once a day, so why not dispense with one featuring cute dogs or world landmarks and build a personalized calendar with a raft of family photos? Websites such as Calendarcraze.Com allow you to do just that.

Hang up your photos using clips and string

When you think of developing photos before the advent of digital photography, do you picture a darkroom with photos peg to pieces of string dangling from the ceiling? You can make a nod to the traditional way in which photos use to be transferred from film to picture by displaying your photos pegged to string hung across a wall.

Or use a tree branch for that rustic look

Take the above idea and move it on a step further, by hanging polaroids from a tree branch attached to the wall, creating a rustic looking piece of art.

Pin photos to a map to show off your travel memories

If you are well traveled, then you’ll probably have photos from all around the country or the world. What better way to display them than by purchasing a giant map and pinning them to the city or country they were taken in. You could even go one stop further and cut your photos into the shape of the places you’ve been to display them. Visited Buckingham Palace? Cut it into the shape of Great Britain and display it over the United Kingdom on the map. You’ll be creating your own little window into the world and have a constant reminder of the great times you’ve had on vacation.

There are several ways to add punch and impact to what might otherwise be a bland room: you could give it a fresh coat of paint, add a potted plant, or switch out the décor. An easier way to give any room a splash of color or a point of interest is by adding throw pillows. They can make any surface appear instantly inviting. We show you how to take any room from boring to brilliant with throw pillows below:

Keep to a Tight Color Palette

A cohesive color palette guarantees maximum visual impact. Choose decorative throw pillows that keep to the same color spectrum, or in complimentary shades. Use these to adorn your seating areas.

Mix and Match Your Textures

As above, use a common color to tie your throw pillows together, but don’t be afraid to bring in some interest in the form of different patterns and textures. Having them in all the same color can keep it from looking too busy, while still drawing the eye.

Combine Different Sizes

Using different size pillows is also one way of keeping things interesting. To keep the space looking neat and polished, try arranging them in a symmetrical way in order to lessen the haphazard feeling. A rule of thumb that’s easy to remember is keeping your largest pillows on the outside in the furthest corners, getting steadily smaller going inward.

Patterns vs. Solids

You can combine patterned, printed throw pillows with those in a solid color. However, give your room a once-over first. If you already have a busy backdrop, such as a patterned wallpaper, decorative couch covers or elaborate curtains, you may want to tone it down several notches with the pillows. It’s best if the print throw pillows match with the majority of the print already present in the room for cohesion.

Consider the Number of Pillows

You don’t want to have so many pillows on the couch that there won’t be room for people to have a seat. Modern design calls for throw pillows in an odd number, as opposed to having them in pairs, which feels more traditional. Having a few big pillows is also better than having an overabundance of small ones.

Scale the Pillows to the Furniture

Throw pillows that are too big for your couch are actually not a very attractive option – it takes up all the room, making it look as if a person couldn’t sit. Standard 18-inch squares are a neat option for sofas with typical dimensions. If your couch is bigger than normal, scale them up. For love seats and arm chairs, smaller is better.

Prioritize Comfort

Yes, the throw pillows are decorative, but pillows are first and foremost all about adding comfort. When you use a stiff filling, you may as well adorn your seats with bricks. While it isn’t necessary to get the priciest inserts, you may want to invest in some that contain a blend of feather, down, or both. These pillows not only provide welcome cushioning for you and your guests but also stay temperate regardless of the climate. For fuller pillows, size up your inserts to give them an overstuffed look that’s warm and inviting.

Throw pillows soften the visual edges of any room and can make any space seem homier. Use them as an affordable way to keep your décor updated and show off your designing flair. How do you decorate with pillows?

Brrr! The weather is getting colder by the day! And with Christmas around the corner, you need to focus all of your energies on enjoying the season, not worrying about whether or not your pipes are going to freeze or burst!

The holidays are a time for family, friends and quite a few plumbing emergencies. A majority of Americans take part in holiday parties with 11 or more guests around Thanksgiving and Christmas. These extra guests put a serious strain on a home's plumbing system, which results in more emergency calls to plumbers.

Big holiday meals require a busy kitchen. Too much grease and food finds its way into the kitchen drain or disposer. Holiday guests also equate to extra showers and baths as well as lots of extra toilet flushes. It all adds up to potential plumbing disasters.

Pipes clog because of a gradual buildup of grease, hair, soap and/ or food particles. All it takes it one major overload, like a house full of guests, to exasperate the situation and create a clogged drain.

Below are some important steps to take to ensure that all of your plumbing runs smoothly during the winter and busy holiday season (Brought to you by Roto-Rooter)

Plumbing in the Kitchen:

  • Avoid pouring fats or cooking oils down the drain because liquid fats solidify in the pipes and create clogs. Wipe congealed grease from pots
  • Never put hard-to-grind, stringy, fibrous waste into the garbage disposer (poultry skins, carrots, celery, pumpkin pulp or banana peels). The disposer can't sufficiently grind these items and they will clog your sink drain.
  • Run cold water down the drain for about 15 seconds before and after using the garbage disposer to flush waste down the main line.
  • Turn on the disposer before adding food debris.
  • Run the dishwasher and washing machine at night or at off times to conserve hot water and maintain adequate water pressure for your guests.

Plumbing in the Bathroom:

  • Plan ahead, spread out showers throughout the day; wait 10 minutes between showers rather than taking one right after another.
  • Turn up the water heater slightly to retain hot water. To avoid scalding, do not exceed 125°F.
  • If shower pressure is weak, pour a cup of vinegar into a plastic bag, place it over the shower head, and soak. Use a twist tie to hold it in place overnight. In the morning, remove the bag and use an old toothbrush to gently scrub off the mineral deposits to help restore water flow.

Prevent Frozen Pipes:

If water freezes within a pipe, it will expand and crack the pipe. Just like that soda pop can experiment you may have tried when you were younger, you will notice the expansion and explosion when you freeze it. The same thing happens within a frozen pipe, which ultimately can cost you time and money.

The water expanding into ice within the pipe can cause an increase in water pressure. This blockage can create excessive pressure throughout the system and cause pipe failure in vulnerable places. Generally, water pipes in higher places like attics, garages, crawl spaces, or outside walls are typically the most vulnerable locations for a potential frozen pipe emergency.

Preventing a Frozen Pipe Disaster:

  • Install pipes in an insulated place
  • Bury pipes lower in the ground, below the frost line
  • Install pipes in heated spaces, avoid attics and garages whenever possible
  • Fit pipes with insulation sleeves or wrapping
  • Letting a faucet drip during extreme cold weather can prevent a pipe from bursting.

If you currently notice slower water flow and expect frozen pipes, you should call a plumber immediately. Often times issues like this can be resolved before any damage occurs.

Fixing Frozen Pipes with Current Breakage:

  • Turn off the water main line to prevent flooding
  • Research correct piping layout structure you currently have in your home
  • Identify the cracked pipe and replace broken pipe sections with insulation
  • Call Roto-Rooter plumbers immediately for best and fastest repairs

Keep your Septic System Running Smoothly

If you live on a septic system, like my family does, you know that it can overflow any time! That is a pretty scary thought, especially when you have guests. Having all of those extra people can really add to the problem, since there will be all of that extra sewage.

Roto-Rooter Septic Treatment is scientifically formulated to help prevent septic backups. This Natural formula uses 2X more enzymes than the leading national brand to eliminate MORE paper, fats, oils, grease, protein, and starch. This product also helps eliminate unpleasant odors and dampness in leach fields. We use it monthly to avoid costly and messy backups.

Great Tips for Fast and Effective Cleanup after Meals

Would it be great if a savory meal cooked at home did not have to accompany the frustration of doing the dishes afterwards? However, tidying up after a meal is not a big deal if you follow the following steps for a fast and effective remedy from cleanup after your meal. Check these out below:

Make sure you have a clean area to start with:

Sometime before you even start with the cleaning of the dishes, you may witness that the dishwasher or the kitchen sink is already loaded with dirty plates and other crockery from the previous meals. This may double the load of work upon you, which you need to avoid. The best way is to clean up the area before you are preparing for your next meal. Keeping the sink area and the dishwasher clean will make it quicker and easier for you to manage the plates, etc.

Keep cleaning as you are cooking:

Another great way of lightening the load of dishes is by keep cleaning while you are preparing a meal. This may feel like a burden to some and people may even want to leave the work hanging for later. However, delaying it will only frustrate you more as you will see a bigger cluster of dishes waiting for you after the meal. Therefore, a prudent way to avoid it is by cleaning the pots and pans as soon as you are finished cooking in them.

Make sure you have everything ready for the cleaning:

It is even more frustrating to find that the dishwashing soap or the sponge is not present at its place for cleaning afterwards. So, avoid such annoying situations by double-checking that everything stays at its place and is stocked with the required materials beforehand.

Great cooking habits help:

You do not have to be a great chef to achieve this level, but you may still try to learn a few healthy and easy tricks that will leave your kitchen clean most of the times. Some tips such as reusing a utensil for cooking by rinsing it, keeping a bowl to store food scraps and vegetable peels, and using a towel to wipe spills is a great way to clean up the kitchen after preparing a meal.

Be ready for any leftovers:

Many a time leftovers are to be stocked in bowls and cases to be stored in the fridge. However, it gets frustrating when you find out that the fridge is already packed with leftovers from the last meal. Avoid such situations by being ready with extra space in the fridge before preparing a meal. You may want to clear up the space by removing unwanted leftovers so that you can avoid a mess.

Using the various tips for cleaning up after your meal will help you stay stress-free. Such tips help in dealing with the daily chores in the kitchen more efficiently. You can even use your DIY experience to come up with unique methods to deal with such situations.

As holiday season rolls in, people search for the perfect gift to give. What do you get for those hard-to-shop for kids? For Scooby-Doo lovers and fellow “meddling kids”?

You get them the Scooby-Doo Bi-Plane Snaptite Model Kit from Revell! My son, Braxton is one of those hard-to-shop for kids. I was sent a Scooby-Doo Bi-Plane Snaptite Model Kit to review, and I debated on whether or not to give it to Braxton as a Christmas gift. But then, I became curious. Would my eleven-year old enjoy putting together this cute little model airplane? Braxton is definitely a child who loves all-things technology, and I wanted to find out if this would hold his interest.

The Scooby-Doo Bi-Plane Snaptite Model Kit includes:

  • Highly detailed bi-plane
  • 3 Characters ready to fly (Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, & Velma)
  • Fun & bright model design

To my surprise, Braxton was very excited to get the chance to 'build' this little plane. He loves Scooby Doo, and also enjoys building things, and so he happily completed the task and had a lot of fun doing it. He was very proud that he was able to build his own model plane. Now that he has built it, he is having a lot of fun playing with it. I love the bright colors and the cute little characters that are included.

I used to love watching Scooby Doo when I was a child, and I think it is really neat that my own child loves it as well.

As Halloween is quickly approaching, I wanted to share some tips and tricks to have an “Organically Spooky” Halloween, courtesy of Go Organically Fruit Snacks.

From DIY costumes and arts and crafts to alternative treat ideas, get creative and have an all-natural Halloween with Go Organically!

Skip the store-bought costume and swap last year’s costumes with a friend. Or become a DIY creator with objects found around your home and/or a local thrift store. You’ll save money, boost creativity and keep waste out of landfills. While there are tons of super-crafty ideas on Pinterest, we’re all about simple:

  • Ghost: The classic easy homemade costume. Cut eye and mouth holes out of an old bedsheet and voila!
  • Cowboy/Cowgirl: Pair a plaid shirt with denim bottoms, tie a red handkerchief around their neck, and add a hat from your dress-up trunk.
  • Athlete: Have kids don their sports uniforms to become an instant baseball player or soccer star.
  • Rocker: Think ripped jeans, faded T-shirt, big hair and toy guitar.

From patch to porch, it just isn’t Halloween without jack-o’-lanterns. Some pumpkin pointers:

  • Curate: Rather than buy pumpkins at a supermarket or commercial pumpkin patch, head to a local farm and pick your own.
  • Carve: When it comes time to carve, remember that you can use those lovely pumpkin guts for breads, soups and muffins, and even roast the pumpkin seeds for a delicious seasonal snack.
  • Create: For a no-carve design with a natural feel, drape your pumpkin in cotton kitchen twine to mimic a tangled spider web.

Whether you head to a local Trunk or Treat or go door to door, Trick or Treating is the ultimate Halloween rite of passage for kids. Some favorite treat ideas:

  • Candy Alternatives: Think outside the candy wrapper with kid-friendly snack alternatives. Try snack-size pretzel bags, individual hot cocoa packets, andGo Organically organic fruit snacks . These dairy-free kids snacks come in single-serve pouches for easy distribution!
  • Non-food Treats: Have a gluten-free goblin or nut-free ninja at your house? Or know a food sensitive kiddo who might stop by? Hand out non-food treats like stickers, bubbles, pencils or temporary tattoos.

Other Spooky Swaps

  • Treat Bags: Instead of a carrying a plastic pumpkin or bag for that Trick or Treat haul, use a pillowcase or reusable canvas tote that your kids can decorate themselves.
  • Decorations: Store-bought spiders and witches are fun, but try decorating with items found in nature or other objects from your home. Put out a centerpiece of colorful gourds, or cut ghosts and bats out of recyclable construction paper.
  • Dessert: Making a cake for a Halloween party? Swap out sprinkles or candy toppings for Go Organically gluten free fruit snacks . They’re excellent for spelling out the word “Boo!”

(I do love my plastic pumpkin. In fact, I am recycling the same one I have used for over ten years, so I guess that is good for the environment!)

Enter to win! One winner will receive one box of each flavor of Go Organically Fruit Snacks (3 boxes in total).

With the combination of long hair and pets in my household, we deal with many clogged drains! In fact, just last week, my tub was not draining. Thankfully, I knew just what to do! (I was rather proud of myself, too!) I simply grabbed my bottle of Roto Rooter Hair Clog Remover, poured the proper amount right down my shower drain, and waited about twenty minutes. Bye-bye clog!

With more active ingredients and the perfect thickness, Roto Rooter is the best choice for every type of clog. All of their products are safe for all types of pipes and septic systems. Below is a run down of the most common types of household clogs, and the best way to remedy them.

Clog 101~

Kitchen Clogs

Clogged drains in the kitchen are generally caused by grease. Greasy bacon, hamburger and sausage drippings are a common culprit. I try to keep it from going down the kitchen drain, but sometimes I forget. When it collects in the pipes, it can lead to a stubborn clog. We don't have a garbage disposal, so that makes things worse. Whenever I get a kitchen sink clog, I use Roto Rooter's Gel Clog Remover, and soon everything is running smoothly.

Bathroom Clogs

Clogged drains in the bathroom are caused by hair. Both of my daughters (who have long hair) are married and out of the house, and so my shower drain does not get clogged as often as it used to. But I also have long hair, which seems to be shedding a lot lately. Roto Rooter's Hair Clog Remover saved the day when I had to use it last week.

Septic Clogs/ Issues

If you have a septic system, you can experience backups and other problems if the tank isn’t managed properly. Thankfully, Roto Rooter has a solution for that as well. Roto Rooter's Septic Treatment keeps your septic system running smoothly. It has 2x more enzymes to prevent septic backups. I use it monthly to avoid costly and messy backups. It WORKS IMMEDIATELY TO BREAK DOWN WASTE!  My family lives on a septic system in our yard, and having someone come over to pump it is not only embarrassing, but it is expensive as well!

I had always wanted to try out milk paint, because I had heard great things about it. I have a little side table that has been in my family since as long as I can remember. I think it was my grandmother's. I love the table, but it truly needed a little TLC. Thankfully, I was given the chance to review The Real Milk Paint.

Here is the table before I did anything to it....

For starters, I wiped the table down with a homemade cleaner (which consisted of borax, white vinegar, hot water and dish washing liquid in a spray bottle) and let it dry. Then I sanded the table with a medium grit sanding sponge to rough the piece up a bit.

Then it was time to mix up the paint, and get started painting. I used the Still Water Cove Grey shade. I followed the directions for mixing the milk paint. For this little project I only used 1/2 cup milk paint powder with 1/2 cup water. After I mixed it and let it sit to thicken up, the painting began!

I did 2 coats, letting the paint dry between coats

Look at my finished project! Doesn't it look amazing? It was so easy!

I couldn't be happier with the final product!

I have worked with Annie Sloan chalk paint, BB Frosch chalk paint powder, and Fusion mineral paint before, but never have had the opportunity until now to try out The Real Milk Paint. I would have to say that I would definitely use it again!
