January is a time for new beginnings. Out with the old and in with the new! It is a new year, and that means it is time to start fresh. Speaking of starting fresh, can your home decor use a little updating? Updating your home doesn’t have to cost a fortune! Plus, you don’t have to be an interior designer to achieve a stylish and uplifting vibe for your home.
Here are a few of my favorite home decorating ideas that will help you transform your living space easily and affordably:
Begin with a fresh coat of Paint– Sometimes all you need is a fresh coat of paint to spruce up your home. Painting a room yourself is an affordable project that won’t take too much time and can make a world of difference. Sticking with neutral shades will give you the greatest decorating flexibility, allowing you to easily switch up your decor.
Apply Accent Wallpaper– You don’t have to wallpaper your entire room—just pick a wall and accent with it. It’s fast, easy, and makes a big difference.
Re-paint old furniture white– It really brightens up a room, and can help you to re-purpose pieces instead of getting rid of them. The white adds a touch of elegance.
Rearrange furniture– sometimes all it takes to re-vamp a room is by rearranging the furniture. There is really no rhyme or reason on how to place your furniture, and you might find yourself moving things around several different ways before you find an arrangement that you like. What is most important is that is makes you happy.
Opt For Statement Art– Make a simple wall a little more exciting with oversized artwork. Choose large-scale photography or something abstract and vibrant to really make a statement.
Rearrange Your Bookshelves– You could fill them with books—or you could add in decor accents and accessories like vases, pretty candle holders or sculptures. It helps break up the monotony of a wall of books.
Colorful throw pillows– Don’t be afraid of color! There are many ways to bring a pop of color to your home, and throw pillows are the perfect way to begin. Whether on your couch or on a bed, don’t under estimate the power of a colorful throw pillow to tie the place together. Throw pillows are a simple way to freshen up your decor in the bedroom or living room. It is so much fun to introducing a new color, print, or theme with a throw pillow, and you can always switch things up when the mood strikes!
Introduce A New Throw Blanket– Putting a colorful throw blanket at the end of your bed or flung over the sofa is an easy way to experiment with colors and prints before fully committing to them. Sheepskin throws are amazing as well. They add warmth, texture, and style while also being very affordable and classy.
Add A Statement Tablecloth– Just like throw pillows, a boldly patterned or colored tablecloth can instantly make a traditional space a little more eclectic.
Display Knick-Knacks and Collectibles– Do you collect, vases, picture frames or old books? What about your grandmother’s antique china set? Place them neatly on a shelf, or small table. Don’t be afraid to show them off! You can also add a candelabra for wedding centerpieces as well as pretty candle holders of all shapes and sizes.
Plants– Adding a pretty plant or a nice floral arrangement can beautify a whole room on it’s own. Whether it is real or not, plants can make all of the difference in the feel of the space.
Change out your Blinds/Window Coverings– How about bamboo? There are many different styles and textures to choose from. Window decor, (curtains and blinds) should be functional and elegant. If your room gets a lot of sun, make sure you go for light colors that won’t fade.
Recover Your Furniture– The super easy way to switch up your furniture game? Go with a slipcover!
Throw rug/Area Rug– The rug you choose can instantly change the whole aesthetic of your room.
Mirrors– Hang at least one mirror in every room! Mirrors can make a space feel brighter because they reflect the light around the room. You can also group a set of smaller mirrors together on a wall for an interesting dynamic. Mirrors never go out of style!
However you decide to redecorate your home, just keep in mind that if it makes you happy, that is all that matters!
