Comedian George Burns once said, “You can’t help getting older, but you don’t have to get old.” That seems to be the basis of all anti-aging treatments – maximizing the skin’s appearance, concealing any signs of wear and tear.
One of the most popular anti-aging treatments at the moment, one that more and more people are opting for each year, is laser skin tightening.
If you’re on the lookout for an effective procedure to have that will help give your face or body a more youthful appearance, you may have given some attention to this particular treatment already.
How Laser Skin Tightening Works
If you’ve ever undergone laser hair removal, you’ll probably be wondering how such a laser can work on an anti-aging basis. After all, these lasers focus on skin contrasts in order to remove hair, not on subtle imperfections.
As it happens, skin tightening is carried out using a different type of laser altogether. As these lasers don’t have to target specific hairy spots, they can instead focus on all of the skin cells in any particular area. This causes the cells to become more active, which encourages them to repair themselves as a result. As the cells heal, they tighten up, which leaves skin looking softer and more youthful.
These anti-aging lasers don’t just work on the face, either. They work on all major body parts. Sagging thighs and upper arms can benefit from a session of laser skin tightening, as can the stomach. Any area where skin is suffering from wrinkling or sagging is likely to respond well to laser treatment.
How Many Treatments are Needed to Fix a Problem?
Sadly, age brings with it many unpleasant symptoms. Wrinkling and sagging skin are just one of them. This means that there’s no lasting treatment for what is essentially a natural part of the whole aging process. Any areas that are treated are likely to suffer from loose skin and corrugated lines again at some point in the future.
Still, the effects of skin tightening aesthetic laser treatment can last months, and often years, meaning it’s still a worthwhile thing to do. Treatment can also be repeated at a later date, too, so you can have problem areas worked on numerous times if need be.
To see improvements in your skin tone, you’re likely to need a few treatments performed several weeks apart. If you need to have more treatments performed sometime in the future, this isn’t a problem at all.
Is Treatment Painful and is There a Risk of Side Effects?
Compared to invasive anti-aging treatments, laser skin tightening isn’t that painful. However, that isn’t to say that the laser won’t cause you some minor discomfort. As your skin will be heated up during the procedure, experiencing warm or burning sensations isn’t that uncommon. You may also feel a minor zapping sensation in the part of your body being treated, although this depends on what type of laser is being used. If you feel actual pain during treatment, this is rare and you need to tell your technician straight away.
If you’re wondering about side effects, these aren’t common at all. Other than a small amount of redness and swelling that should go away after a day or two, you’re unlikely to experience any downsides to treatment. In rare cases, you might find you’ve developed a few small blisters or bruises. Once again these are likely to go away pretty quickly. One of the major advantages when it comes to laser skin treatment is you’ll be able to return to normal life as soon as the procedure has been completed.
