If you’re a busy mother, then it can be tricky to develop and maintain healthy routines. The key lies in developing the right habits (easier said than done, we know). Even if you can just dedicate a small part of each day or week to the right activities, then you may experience significant physical and mental health benefits.
Natural Eating
If you visit a bookstore, you will find a whole section dedicated to dieting. While some of the diets may work, others are just there so the authors can make a quick buck. It’s much simpler to skip the fad diets and just focus on natural produce, fresh meat, and whole grains. We already know what foods are good for us so just concrete on eating them as much as possible. You don’t need to take to extreme measures like measuring out portion size and nutrient ratios for every meal (you’re already busy enough being a mother).
Physical Activity
You don’t have to jump out of bed and run a half marathon, however, a bit of activity a few times a week can be very beneficial. The problem is that hectic schedules often ruin the best intentions. The easiest way to make exercise a regular part of your life is to get into a routine. Aim to exercise at the same times each week, or each day. It may be hard at first, but as the habit strengthens, you will actually feel worse if you don’t work-out.
The other important thing to remember is that you need to pick activities that you enjoy. Forcing yourself to like an activity that you hate is a lot harder than focusing on those you enjoy.
Meditation
While physical health is what most people focus on, it’s mental health that can really set you up for a long, successful life. The modern world is stressful, and juggling family, work and other commitments can get pretty hectic. That’s why it’s recommended that you delegate a time each week to switch off (easier said than done!).
If you have never tired mediation before then why not give it a go. It’s not for everyone. However, many practitioners have experienced benefits.
Reading
Another must do, to sharpen your mind, is reading: You could read a good book or simply research to view story about the latest news. Just make sure you read something more substantial than just social media posts.
Writing
If you’re stressed from your commitments (and just being a mum in general), then a great way to organize your thoughts is by writing. You don’t have to write a Steven King novel, however, jotting down some words that are about your life, goals, or problems, can actually help you find inner peace.
Final Thoughts
It may be hard but try not to take shortcuts when it comes to your health. Squeezing in the right habits can help you build on your health over the next few years. Good luck on your journey.
