August 21, 2024 by Juliann Leave a Comment

A career in medicine can be a wonderful choice not only because they tend to pay well. But also because they can be very meaningful and rewarding as well. Of course, there are a great many careers in medicine to choose from, and if you are looking for options beyond the typical doctor and nurse suggestions, then you have come to the right place. Just check out the opportunities below.

Dental Hygienist

With a salary of around $70K hygienists are a vital member of any dental team. Their main duties are to perform regular hygiene treatments such as scrap and polishes as well as be on the lookout for signs and symptoms of disease.

To become a dental hygienist, you’ll need at least an associate’s degree, as well as some specialized training. The good news is that there is plenty of predicted need for dental hygienists in the future so it’s a great role if you are looking for job security.

Medical coder

Another medical career that does not involve being a nurse or a doctor is medical coding. Medical coding offers a salary of around $50 and involves analyzing the medical care a patient has been given and recording it accurately using alphanumeric codes.

To become a medical coder, you will need a high school diploma and a clean background check. You’ll also need to complete a medical coding education program of which there are many. Be sure to choose the right program for the type of certification you want here.

Once you have completed all these stages you can apply to work in a medical institution as a coder.

Phlebotomist

A phlebotomist career is focused on working with blood. Typical tasks include taking blood samples from patients while keeping them calm and comfortable. With a salary of around $40K phlebotomy can be a great career choice for those that are good with people.

To become a phlebotomist, you won’t need a degree, but you will require post-secondary education and professional certification.

Paramedics

With a similar salary range to phlebotomists, becoming a paramedic is a much more exciting prospect for many people looking for a medical career. Paramedics differ from EMTs because they respond to emergencies stabilizing and treating patients on the screen as well as transporting them to the hospital. With EMTs only doing the latter.

to be able to do this often life-saving job, you’ll need a state license as well as have completed a high-level education course from a provider like Royal Ambulance. Indeed, if you are ready to transform paramedicine with Royal Ambulance, all you need to do is check out their next-generation paramedic program. Then just click join the team to find out what positions are currently available.

Genetic Counselor

Last, a medical career that can be very meaningful but not many people know about is becoming a genetic counselor. The average salary for a genetic counselor is quite high at around $80K a year, and the main responsibilities of the job include investigating a family’s health history to check for the risk of passing on health conditions to children.

To get work as a genetic counselor you must hold a master’s degree in genetic counseling or genetics, and you will need Board certification which involves sitting an exam and maintaining your professional development.
