5 Ways to keep your Home Tidy

March 13, 2019 by Juliann Leave a Comment

As a parent, you already know how challenging it can be to run your household. From cooking healthy meals to making sure that everyone is happy, there is an overwhelming number of responsibilities. Keeping the home clean and tidy is one of them, and that can often feel like a losing battle. If your children are happy leaving their toys at the top of the stairs, think nothing of throwing dirty clothes on the floor, and never tidy up after themselves, then you probably feel like pulling your hair out. The good news is that there are some proven ways to help make keeping your home clean and tidy, and you might even be able to get the children to help!

Rules for Play

The more expectation that you demand, the easier it will be for your children to understand routines and requirements. When it comes to playtime, make sure that you establish this simple rule: one toy set at a time, and put it away before unpacking a different set. This will prevent the accumulation of toys, and make it far easier to manage your household.

Everything in its place

The more designated areas that you have for possessions, the easier it is to put them back where they belong. If you lack space, then simple solutions can include using empty shoe boxes for toys and trinkets or investing in some clothes bins for the same task. The more that your children know where things belong, the more likely that they will tidy up after themselves.

Redesign

It might seem like overkill, but some simple changes to your home will make it much easier to keep clean and tidy. Carpet can be a nightmare when you have children, with spilled drinks and dropped food not helping at all. Have a look at the low cost of laminate flooring Charleston SC at Palmetto Carpet and Floor Coverings, and consider how much time you might save when all of your floor cleaning can be done quickly and with nothing more than a brush.

Reward Tidiness

If your children don’t put their clutter away, then you should deny them access to it when they next want it. Have a storage box that’s kept out of reach. If you’ve asked for a spruce up of their room, wait until they have said they’re done, and anything that hasn’t been tidied goes into that storage until they improve. That reward could be the inspiration they need to pay more attention to their living space.

Game Playing

One of the best ways to get your children to help with the tidying up is to let them be the boss for a while. They’ll love being in charge, and if you have more than one child, then you can have one acting as a supervisor (remember to switch up roles). Being in charge of you and their siblings will be fun, and they might even start paying more attention to what needs doing too. Tidying up games are not just practical; they’re fun too!

Teach your children how to clean properly, and they’ll feel more grown up too. Start them off by letting them play-clean alongside you, and show them how to improve. You might find that they love tidying up so much that you never have to wipe down a side or pick up a toy again. It’s good to dream, right?
