6 Ways To Slow Down Premature Skin Aging

June 8, 2022 by Juliann

We all know that the aging process is inevitable. You may notice that the skin around your eyes, neck, hands, and chest is thinning and not as supple as it used to be. Since you cannot completely stop your skin from aging, you can do a couple of things to reduce the rate at which your skin ages. Here are some effective tips on how to slow down premature aging.

Get adequate sleep

During deep sleep, your body releases hormones that promote cell turnover and regeneration. Therefore, it would be best to get at least eight hours of sleep so that your body can repair itself and slow down the aging process. To give you a younger appearance, you could also take advantage of nighttime to apply age-defying ingredients on your skin, such as beta-hydroxy acid and retinoids.

Exercise regularly

Regular physical activity promotes the circulation of oxygenated blood throughout your body. Therefore, your skin will get plenty of nourishment and look supple and radiant. Vigorous exercises such as cardio and HIIT workouts also cause you to sweat profusely. The sweat opens up clogged pores and allows your skin to breathe.

Wear sunscreen

Harmful UVA and UVB rays from the sun account for 90% of your skin’s visible signs of aging. You could slow down premature skin aging by staying out of the sun as much as possible. If you must run some errands when the sun is out, ensure you cover your skin with long-sleeved clothing and a wide-brimmed hat. We also suggest wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of above 30 to protect your skin.

Consider cosmetic procedures

You may have tried several skin products but failed to find one that works for you. An excellent alternative to help slow down the aging process would be to go for cosmetic procedures such as Botox injections. These cosmetic procedures can help erase wrinkles and fine lines on your face, leaving you with a more youthful appearance. If you reside around Nampa, you could get BOTOX injections at Nava Face & Eye. Ensure you go to a licensed professional to guarantee the best results.

Drink alcohol and caffeine in moderation

Too much of anything is not good for your body. Drinking too much caffeine and alcohol can rid your body of its nutrients to survive. Your skin is also more likely to become dehydrated. Therefore, it would be wise to consume alcohol and caffeine in moderation.

Develop a good skincare routine

Last but not least, we suggest you establish a regular skincare routine to help prevent further aging of your skin. This routine can also help revive dry, damaged skin and cause you to glow. Start by washing your face with lukewarm water, then apply your toner, face serum, and eye cream, and finish with a moisturizing cream. Ensure you are using the correct products for your skin type to increase your skin’s elasticity.

In Conclusion

Genes and harmful UV rays from the sun are not the only factors that can cause your skin to age prematurely. Your lifestyle habits could also play a huge role in speeding up premature skin aging. However, if you eat well, wear sunscreen, and hydrate thoroughly, you will notice your skin becoming radiant and supple.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
