Are You a Stressed Mom? Here’s What You Can Do About It

June 9, 2021 by Juliann

Parenting is one of the most stressful roles you will ever have in life and it is not unusual for you to feel completely overwhelmed by the responsibilities you are faced with on a day-to-day basis. While it does not necessarily change your lifestyle, it can be a relief to know you are not the only one who feels this way. Millions of women around the world find being a mom an extremely stressful role – you want to be the very best you can be at all times, but there are always a hundred other responsibilities to manage around parenting.

You should not be living a life of stress as a mom. Therefore, you should find ways you can take care of yourself and get rid of the extreme pressure on your shoulders. Take a look at some of the pointers below as to how to manage it:

Take a break from technology

While technology has improved various aspects of our lives, it can also be a major downfall to the point we become stressed and anxious by the content we are exposed to. Whether you are constantly receiving emails or spend a large portion of time scrolling unnecessarily through social media platforms, sometimes it is time to put the phone down and be more aware of your physical surroundings. In doing so, you become more grounded and aware of what is happening around you and hopefully get a better night’s sleep which will, in turn, improve your focus, mood and stress levels. Put the phone away and start reaping the benefits.

Share responsibilities

One of the reasons why you may be completely stressed is due to the fact that you simply do not have enough hands to manage every aspect of your life. Are you accountable for childcare? Or perhaps you are expected to carry out all of the domestic duties in the house?

If you are starting to feel overwhelmed, it would be well worth having a serious conversation with your partner about how responsibilities should be shared or managed to make your life easier. If you are both juggling tasks and are still exhausted, it would be well worth considering hiring external help such as end of lease cleaners or a babysitter.

Stop having unrealistic expectations

It is extremely natural to place pressure on yourself to meet the expectations you have in mind, but this is often caused by your own mentality as opposed to the opinions of others around you. You will most likely be hoping to deliver 100% all of the time, which is not only unrealistic but is bound to leave you exhausted. Pat yourself on the back when you have done something good and do not concentrate on every mistake you make. You are only human after all.

Ask for help

The idea of asking for help may feel you with dread and embarrassment, but sometimes you need to allow yourself to hold your hands up and admit you need some assistance. Pay attention to your inner needs and realize when you are struggling, or you are likely to push yourself too hard and cause serious anxiety and even burnout.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
