I am never one to get very political, especially online or on social media. It isn’t that I do not have an opinion, it is just that I do not like to argue. I don’t like to watch the news, because it is depressing. It seems like there is never a day that does not go by without some type of violence going on. This world that we live in, with all of it’s political unrest is just not a safe place. And that is why I own a gun. There, I said it.
I live about about 30 minutes away from Portland, which has had a lot of crazy and even violent protesting going on. (I am sure you have read about it in the news pretty recently.) The once beautiful city of Portland, Oregon is now an eyesore with buildings covered in graffiti and statues crumbled to the ground. I live on the outskirts in a city called, Damascus, which I consider a relatively safe place to raise a family. Many of my neighbors have cows and horses, and the houses are not too uncomfortably close together. I love the feeling of privacy out here. I can go out to get my mail in my pajamas with zero makeup on, without the risk of running into anyone. There is a very low rate of crime out here in Damascus. Even though I do not feel as though my family’s safety is in jeopardy, I still wish to be vigilant. I want to be careful not to develop a false sense of security, because anything could still happen. Although not recently, (that I know of) this area has had its share of home invasion.
My husband has had several guns throughout the years, and thought it was time for me to own one as well. I hope I would never have the need to use it, but I sleep better at night knowing that I have one locked in the safe next to my bed.
My husband and I went target shooting up in the hills a few weekends ago, and I must say, I am getting pretty good at it! I can even load it by myself. My husband proceeded to upload a cute picture of me aiming at the target onto social media. Of course, you can imagine the onslaught of comments we received from those who do not believe in owning a gun- (thus why I usually keep my political opinions to myself, as I stated earlier.) But everyone has the right to their own beliefs.
I do not currently have a concealed hand gun permit, but I plan to get one in the next few months, and I will be getting myself a holster.
