Make Halloween Organically Spooky with Go Organically

October 26, 2017 by Juliann

As Halloween is quickly approaching, I wanted to share some tips and tricks to have an “Organically Spooky” Halloween, courtesy of Go Organically Fruit Snacks.

From DIY costumes and arts and crafts to alternative treat ideas, get creative and have an all-natural Halloween with Go Organically!

Costumes

Skip the store-bought costume and swap last year’s costumes with a friend. Or become a DIY creator with objects found around your home and/or a local thrift store. You’ll save money, boost creativity and keep waste out of landfills. While there are tons of super-crafty ideas on Pinterest, we’re all about simple:

  • Ghost: The classic easy homemade costume. Cut eye and mouth holes out of an old bedsheet and voila!
  • Cowboy/Cowgirl: Pair a plaid shirt with denim bottoms, tie a red handkerchief around their neck, and add a hat from your dress-up trunk.
  • Athlete: Have kids don their sports uniforms to become an instant baseball player or soccer star.
  • Rocker: Think ripped jeans, faded T-shirt, big hair and toy guitar.
  • Favorite Fictional Character: This year, why not make like Mrs. Weasley, skip the store-bought Halloween costumes and make your own DIY Harry Potter Costumes instead?

Pumpkins

From patch to porch, it just isn’t Halloween without jack-o’-lanterns. Some pumpkin pointers:

  • Curate: Rather than buy pumpkins at a supermarket or commercial pumpkin patch, head to a local farm and pick your own.
  • Carve: When it comes time to carve, remember that you can use those lovely pumpkin guts for breads, soups and muffins, and even roast the pumpkin seeds for a delicious seasonal snack.
  • Create: For a no-carve design with a natural feel, drape your pumpkin in cotton kitchen twine to mimic a tangled spider web.

Treats

Whether you head to a local Trunk or Treat or go door to door, Trick or Treating is the ultimate Halloween rite of passage for kids. Some favorite treat ideas:

  • Candy Alternatives: Think outside the candy wrapper with kid-friendly snack alternatives. Try snack-size pretzel bags, individual hot cocoa packets, and Go Organically organic fruit snacks . These dairy-free kids snacks come in single-serve pouches for easy distribution!
  • Non-food Treats: Have a gluten-free goblin or nut-free ninja at your house? Or know a food sensitive kiddo who might stop by? Hand out non-food treats like stickers, bubbles, pencils or temporary tattoos.

Other Spooky Swaps

  • Treat Bags: Instead of a carrying a plastic pumpkin or bag for that Trick or Treat haul, use a pillowcase or reusable canvas tote that your kids can decorate themselves.
  • Decorations: Store-bought spiders and witches are fun, but try decorating with items found in nature or other objects from your home. Put out a centerpiece of colorful gourds, or cut ghosts and bats out of recyclable construction paper.
  • Dessert: Making a cake for a Halloween party? Swap out sprinkles or candy toppings for Go Organically gluten free fruit snacks . They’re excellent for spelling out the word “Boo!”

(I do love my plastic pumpkin. In fact, I am recycling the same one I have used for over ten years, so I guess that is good for the environment!)

I hope your Halloween is Organically Spooky! Be sure to follow Go Organically on Facebook for more kid-friendly ideas.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
