4 Things Moms Should Know About CBD

October 23, 2020 by Juliann Leave a Comment

While discussions regarding the legal use of compounds from the marijuana plant continue to rage on in some countries, what most UK lawmakers can agree on is that the use of the cannabidiol compound (CBD) penguin cbd is relatively safe as long as products do not contain more than 0.2% of the psychoactive compound tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). However, for struggling mums looking into the potential of CBD in the treatment of a variety of childhood issues, sometimes the information available on the web can be confusing and can lead to more questions than answers. This is why we have broken down some of that information so that mums can get a better understanding of this compound and make more informed decisions when it comes to using CBD.

What is CBD?

The first important thing mums need to know about CBD is that, even though CBD is extracted from the same plant that many users smoke to get high, CBD is not marijuana, and it does not contain any psychoactive properties. The CBD compound in marijuana is just one of over 400 kinds of compounds so far discovered, and its effects are profoundly different from the effects of something like THC.

There is a lot of confusion around the topic of Hemp CBD Oil and, in particular, the differences between hemp CBD oil vs CBD oil. The main difference between these two types of oils is what materials are involved in the extraction of these two products. Hemp CBD oil is typically extracted from the seeds of a CBD-rich plant. CBD oil is typically oil that is extracted from the entire hemp plant and, because of this reason, CBD oil generally contains slightly higher THC levels than hemp seed oil.

What Is CBD Useful for Treating?

While the use of CBD for reducing pain and inflammation and minimising the effects of anxiety and depression is well documented, further research into the compound has uncovered a variety of other uses for CBD.

Acne is an issue that affects millions of people worldwide, and children often experience bad cases of acne during puberty. While it is unclear precisely how CBD helps with the symptoms of acne, there have been studies that show that the anti-inflammatory properties of the compound can have an effect on the sebaceous glands in the skin and can help reduce acne to manageable levels.

Research has shown that CBD can also assist in the treatment of neurological disorders such as paediatric epilepsy and multiple sclerosis due to the compound’s neuroprotective properties. In studies where patients used products that contain CBD, it was noted that the compound had the effect of minimising both the severity and frequency of seizures. This resulted in an FDA panel recommending CBD as a treatment for seizure disorders, including in children.

How Safe Is CBD?

While CBD is a relatively safe compound that doesn’t usually have a negative effect on those who take it daily, just like with any medication, the use of CBD can result in some side effects. These can include diarrhoea, drowsiness, dry mouth, loss of appetite, and fatigue. CBD has also been found to have a negative interaction with medications such as blood thinners, so parents should always consult with a medical professional before giving their child any product that contains CBD.

Can Kids Use CBD?

There has been much speculation regarding the use of CBD by children. While there is still much research to be done, many experts agree that the careful and monitored use of CBD can assist children with the treatment of a variety of issues such as anxiety, hyperactivity, chronic pain, and paediatric epilepsy, and it has also been shown to reduce certain symptoms of autism.

As a compound, CBD has a lot to offer in terms of health benefits; however, just like with any other type of medication, the bottom line is that parents should always consult with a trained professional before giving their child any product that contains CBD.
