Often Missed Areas During House Cleaning

May 3, 2022 by Juliann Leave a Comment

For a lot of people, house cleaning is a chore, and not a particularly fun one at that. Still, keeping our homes clean is important, so we just accept that fact, and get down to cleaning.

However, with the lack of enthusiasm for cleaning usually comes cutting corners – the majority of us will omit to clean one thing or another in order to save a bit of time or effort.

To learn which parts of your house are the most likely to be skipped over when cleaning, we talked to professional maids at Castle Keepers of Greenville.

Under Your Appliances

The kitchen is one of the rooms that requires the most time and effort to clean. Not only is it the room where a lot of us spend the majority of our time at home, but it’s also the place where food is being prepared (and eaten). The opportunities for getting dirty abound.

And while most of us will do at least a decent job at cleaning all of the surfaces and appliances, there’s one thing you probably haven’t done in a while, if ever – cleaned behind and under your fridge. Sure, it might be difficult to move your fridge, but spring cleaning is an ideal time to actually move it and clean under it. The same thing applies to your cooking range and any other big appliance you haven’t moved in a while.

The Cutting Board

Speaking of kitchens and food preparation, your cutting boards probably see a lot of use. On the same day, you may cut tomatoes and other vegetables and meat on the same cutting board.

Even if you wash it between uses, chances are that the nicks and cuts that you made on the board will prevent you from cleaning it properly. To treat the cutting board right, make sure you wash it properly and to seal it with a butcher block oil – this oil will re-seal the cutting board and prevent any food smells from permeating the wood of the cutting board.

Your Electronics and Remotes

Some of the most commonly touched items in your home are probably your electronic gadgets – things like your phone, iPad, or your remote control. But can you think when you cleaned them last? If you are cleanliness conscious, chances are that you occasionally disinfect your phone, but what about other small gadgets you have?

And for most of these gadgets, you are not the only one touching them, meaning that they will accumulate germs not only from you, but from all other members of your household. Fortunately, cleaning them is fairly easy. All you need is some rubbing alcohol and some cotton balls or paper towels. Alcohol is more than capable of killing off just about any germ and it’s good at getting rid of grime, too.

Your Shower Curtain

Another item that gets used every day, but we really don’t think about it much is your shower curtain – all you want from it is to prevent water from spraying all over the bathroom while you’re taking a shower. Once you’re done showering, you probably don’t think about it much.

But, if you do, you will realize that it’s not a great approach – leaving your shower curtain bunched up, wet, warm, and in dark is the ideal home for mold to start growing.

Cleaning your shower curtain entails two things. First, you need to make sure to leave it spread out after a shower to help it dry faster, and you should apply some bathroom cleaner on it at least once a week and hose it down.

It’s difficult to keep track of everything that needs cleaning in your home. However, these areas of your house tend to be left out of most people’s cleaning lists. Hopefully, this list will make you at least think about them.
