July 14, 2020 by Juliann

If you are just getting started with makeup, or maybe need to refresh the basics, then check out these 5 makeup tips for beginners and start looking just how you want to.

Choosing and applying makeup is an art form, it requires research and many years of practice to do it right, so it’s easier to take your first steps in the right direction with the help of these 5 tips for makeup beginners:

1. Find your ‘perfect’ basics

First on our makeup tips for beginners is to set up your basic needs: foundation, concealer, and a pop of color; from these three, you can build up.

What do they do for you?

● Foundation evens your skin, making it appear as one, diminishing unbalances, the most critical part here is to match your tone so that it blends perfectly with your skin.

It comes in various formats from powder to whipped, try to go for the ones with SPF included to protect and cover your face all in one go.

● Concealer, this handy makeup tool will cover any of the more visible spots on your skin, like blemishes and discolorations.

You also can pick from many formats, including sticks and cream.

● An accent color, this touch will complete your look, it can be lipstick or eye shadow, it makes your face pop without too much effort.

2. Practice your skills

You’ll need to apply your makeup several times and experiment with tones, types of products, and color; it’s a process that takes time.

This practice lets you figure out what works best for your shape and skin.

Don’t go at it alone

The mastery of accomplished of an Orlando makeup artist is not easy to come by, so trust their hand for the more critical events where you want to wear makeup and look great.

3. Remember pre and after face care

Having a skincare routine will make all the difference when putting on makeup, because you’ll be styling on a healthy and clean face, making the process easier.

The basic regimen for skincare before and after putting on makeup is pretty much the same with a few exceptions:

● Wash your face

● Moisturize

● Exfoliate regularly

The exceptions

● Toner and primer before applying makeup

● Serum or face masks after removing it

4. Pay attention to your eyes

This is one of the most essential makeup tips for beginners because of all the potential for change in good eye makeup.

To make your eyes pop and complement the rest of your look, it’s essential that you: do your eyebrows, pick a color that goes with your intention, and extend your eyelashes. Achieving a natural look involves enhancing your natural lashes. Consider using mascara to subtly define and lengthen your lashes. Some makeup artists swear by natural lashes by Lilac St., for instance, for a soft and effortless finish. Also, don’t forget to choose the right shape for your brows that will suit your face shape.

Getting a handle on these will make your look reach a whole new level.

5. Use the right tools

As a beginner walking into the makeup aisle can be overwhelming, so ask for help and do your research so you can get exactly what you need.

Having the right kind of starter foundation, concealer, brushes, etc., it will save you from making a lot of makeup mistakes.

Makeup can be whatever you want it to be, a part of your daily routine, or a fun hobby, it’s your choice!

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
