3 Self-Care Activities For When Quarantine Is Over

April 25, 2020 by Juliann

How many weeks has it been now? It feels like forever! Being stuck inside isn’t so much fun, but we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and, eventually, this will all blow over, and we’ll be able to return to some kind of normality.

During these hard times, it may have been difficult to properly invest in self-care. While we know that the measures taken are necessary to help our healthcare systems and save lives, the mental health impacts cannot be overlooked. Understanding that self-care is vital should be at the forefront of our minds when this is over.

Why Self-Care?

Self-care comes in many forms: for you, it might be taking a long bath with candles and incense, or it might be getting away from it all on a long vacation somewhere warm and sunny. Whatever self-care looks like to you, it’s vital that you take some time to be yourself and to reconnect with yourself once this has passed.

Taking time away from being the wife, the mom, and the remote employee trying to hold it together on your daily Zoom meeting really will be important for your health and quite possibly your sanity too!

Your Self-Care Ideas

We’ve pulled together four ideas that lend themselves well to self-care. Some are about reconnecting with people, and others are about getting away from people altogether! In other words, the perfect solutions for introverts and extroverts alike.

1. Plan a Family Reunion

It feels like years since we could just pop across town or across the state to see our families. The kids are cranky because they’re missing grandma, and you’re probably feeling a little low without your sister, your cousin, or your best friend to go shopping, walking, or for coffee with.

When large gatherings are allowed again, why not organize a big family reunion? Throw a proper party at a stunning venue, with private caterers, private bartenders, invites, dress code – the works. Make it a thing to remember: celebrate getting through it together and, if you need to, celebrate those who are no longer with you.

2. Take a Staycation

While we don’t think that foreign travel is going to be something we can do again for a while, taking a staycation could be the perfect solution. Pack up the kids and the dogs in an RV or hire a campground for a few days away. Leave your laptop at home, though!

3. Go on a Spa Day

Sometimes, it’s not about coming together; sometimes, it’s about being perfectly happy on your own. If you’ve been cooped up in the house for the past few weeks, you’re likely missing your regular beauty regimens and being able to take the time out away from everyone to recharge.

Visiting a spa for the day is the perfect antidote. Book yourself in for a facial, a nice long massage, a manicure, and a pedicure. Come home feeling rejuvenated and recharged, ready to face life after lockdown.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
