From birthday parties to bake sales, it seems nearly impossible to keep kids away from sugary snacks. While consuming tasty treats is “all part of being a kid,” the constant sugar overload can wreak havoc on their teeth and gums! Every parent is well aware of the kicking, screaming and squirming that comes with trying to get children to sit still in a dentist’s chair, let alone just brushing their teeth before bedtime! Each February, the American Dental Association sponsors National Children’s Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. While it’s important for kids to take care of their teeth, it can be hard for them to stick to healthier habits without feeling deprived. With this in mind, I would like to suggest two great products for your readers that can effectively show kids of all ages that proper oral hygiene can be just as delicious as the sweetest of treats:
Xlear’s SparX Candy
Sweetened with all-natural xylitol, SparX Candy made by Xlear, Inc. (pronounced “clear,” the leading manufacturer of xylitol based products in the United States, www.xlear.com) is just what health conscious parents have been craving — a sweet, healthy, sugar free treat that kids will actually ask for!One of the primary benefits of xylitol and SparX Candy is the effects it has on the bacteria that create cavities. When exposed to as little as 15 grams of xylitol a day, the bacteria in the mouth lose their ability to stick to teeth and form plaque. Studies have proven that when combined with regular dental hygiene, regular use of xylitol gums, mints and candy can reduce dental cavities by as much as 80%. Available in delicious berry, citrus and fruit flavors, a tube of SparX Candy retails for $1.49, and is available for purchase online at www.xlear.com and at Whole Foods, Vitamin Shoppe and other select retailers nationwide.
Xlear’s Kids Spry Tooth Gel
Kids Spry Tooth Gel is sugar-free, fluoride free, and safe to swallow unlike most children’s toothpastes. Clinical studies suggest that consistent use of products sweetened with 100% xylitol can promote good oral care and reduce the risk of tooth decay. Spry Tooth Gel was designed specifically for toddlers, and children who have trouble brushing their teeth. This product can be used for children ages three months and up. In order to develop a healthy oral care regime for any child, simply apply Spry Tooth Gel on teeth and gums. Xlear Spry Tooth Gel is available in three sweet flavors: Original, Strawberry-Banana and Bubble Gum! A 2.0 fl. oz. tube retails for $5.49, and is available for purchase at all Vitamin Shoppe and Whole Foods locations nationwide, as well as online at www.xlear.com.
My Experience: I received samples of the Xlear’s SparX Candy and the Xlear’s Kids Spry Tooth Gel to review. First of all, the candy is absolutely delicious for both adults and children. I personally love it! It is fruity tasting and very sweet. The texture is kind of like that of ‘Nerds’ candies. I brought some packets of Xlear’s SparX Candy to my Sunday School class to share with the children. (I teach 4 year- olds.) This candy has the perfect sized pieces for little fingers and do not pose a choking hazard. I knew that there would be no hyperactivity resulting from these yummy little treats, so I was safe from parents getting mad at me for bringing candy to their little ones. All of the children loved the candy. There was one other Mommy helping me teach and she enjoyed the candy as well. She was very impressed with the flavor and had never heard of Xylitol. I had fun explaining to her what I had learned about the benefits of xylitol products.
My seven year old son, Braxton loves the Xlear’s Kids Spry Tooth Gel because it is ‘not hot’ like Mommy’s toothpaste. I feel good knowing that Braxton is using a toothpaste that is good for him and does not contain the harmful chemicals and ingredients that are found in ‘grown-up’ toothpastes. It is even no big deal if he swallows it.
