“Mood-lites represent Mood-Factory’s first line of products which are based on the sense of sight, and specifically, in regards to how colors affect how we feel,” said the Chicago-based Kathryn Goetzke, President, Mood-Factory. “We initially launched an incandescent line in 2004, and in 2012 launched a 2nd generation including flood, porch, and compact fluorescent (CFL) Mood-lites. The colors were developed using a number of color expert research and applying their general concepts to lighting.”
I was thrilled to be given the chance to review Mood-lites because I do tend to suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder, and depression. My teenage daughter, Myelie seems to have symptoms of depression as well. I was very curious to find out if colored lighting could help improve our moods, especially since it is getting darker earlier, and the skies are often grey. I was determined to put a few Mood-lites to the test to find out if they could really improve my family’s moods. Could they really make a difference?
I received samples of the following Mood-lites to review: Mood Passion, Mood Renewal, Serenity, Happiness and Tranquility.
Happiness
The Happiness Mood-lite gives off a beautiful, bright, cheerful and sunny light. I put this bulb in my lamp when the skies are grey outside. I will usually use it in the living room, or I have let my daughter use it in her bedroom when she is getting ready for school to give herself a little bit of a mood boost when she is not feeling very happy. It helps to give her a happy start to her day. This lamp really works wonderful for PMS sufferers, too! It makes you feel warm and glowy inside. You just start to feel good, and I have found that it even gives me a sense of hope. My daughter says it gives her a sense of well-being. It definitely lifts my mood and helps to chase depression away!
Serenity
I like to put the Serenity Mood-lite on in my bedroom sometimes when I just want to relax, or even when I am cooking and when my kids are around the table doing homework. It really does give off a vibe of calmness. I think it helps me to concentrate when I am trying to follow a recipe (I tend to get very distracted.) My kids seem to concentrate more on their homework, and they even seem to fight less.
Tranquility
My son, Braxton who is seven years old is always very hyperactive all day long and it is so hard to get him to wind down before bedtime. The Tranquility Mood-lite has been a life saver. I put it in his room when he gets into bed and I lay with him for a while, telling him a bedtime story until he falls asleep. It never takes very long for him to fall asleep with this new routine. This light is very soothing to the soul.
Mood Renewal
I love this light! Renewal Mood-lite makes me feel motivated and energetic. Whenever I put on my ‘green light’ I seem to get more done around the house. It makes me want to do housework, which is kind of strange, but I love that feeling. I feel accomplished. I can see how this light would help to relieve depression, too.
Mood Passion
The Passion Mood-lite is amazing! I put it on in my bedroom (when my kids are asleep.) It made me feel like a giddy teenager again. It brought on a renewed sense of passion and romance. My husband has been out of town for work, and he was delighted with this red Mood-lite. It was kind of exciting and lots of fun. It definitely sets the mood for romance and makes you ‘see things in a different light’ if you catch my drift!
