You have probably seen it before…..kids randomly positioning their motionless bodies in very unusual places in a face down position for no apparent reason. It is called ‘planking’ and it is one of the latest trends that teenagers have come up with for pure entertainment. I have seen kids ‘planking’ everywhere from park benches, sidewalks to play structures. Usually it is with a group of friends, and somebody usually has a camera, ready to take a snapshot of the ‘action’ if you want to call it that.
I have to admit, I do find it rather amusing. I mean, as long as they aren’t harming themselves or anybody else in the process, it is fine with me. I hate to make this confession, but I would have probably participated in such an activity when I was younger. The odder the better.
Passer-bys who may have never before heard of ‘planking’ may become rather alarmed seeing a kid lying face down as if they are deceased. I am surprised I haven’t hard of anyone calling 911, but then again, I am sure the ‘plankster’ would let the concerned citizen in on the joke before it got too far. Hey, whatever keeps kids from doing drugs is great, right? (unless the kid is drunk or under the influence, then I suppose ‘Planking’ could be a bit dangerous if they fell.)
