Happy Birthday to my wonderful, talented and handsome son, Jonathan. The years have flown by. What scares me the most is that I am OLD enough to have child who is 18. I still FEEL young. I don't want to grow up!
Anyway, this birthday is much differerent than Jonathan's past birthdays. No party. No birthday cake. No taking him out to dinner. No special surprises. He wants to hang out with his girlfriend, Cassidy and take her to dinner. That's IT.
I actually miss my little boy who had always planned his big birthday bashes with such excitement aand anticipation. He'd always have the perfect Siderman or Hercules themed cake, complete with a costume and lots of presents. Now as much as I wish I could hold onto his childhood, he is leaving it behind. I wasn't ready, but I can't hold him back, either. Mommy is no longer 'cool' to him. Neither is Spiderman or StarWars. Sure, we are saving a bit of money, (on his birthday party) but I'd rather spend a couple hundred on Jonathan having a Chuck E Cheese party than nothing at all……..*sigh*.
But alas, he hasn't completely let me off the hook. He is ordering some musical equipment for his gift that will set us back a couple hundred. My baby is growing up, but meanwhile, he does birthdays HIS way. Oh, well. Happy Birthday Jonathan.
