Coping with the Flu as a Mommy: A Guide

January 1, 2020 by Juliann Leave a Comment

Being a mommy is a full-time role that leaves you with little time to rest and recuperate. This means that not only is a mother’s immune system weakened, but with kids more susceptible to illnesses, you are more prone to pick them up, too.

Although you may feel like you have no space or time for yourself, it’s imperative that you find some so that you can rest, relax, and bounce back sooner rather than later.

Here’s a guide to help you get well without neglecting your motherly duties.

Ask for help

Firstly, it’s crucial for you to know that asking for help doesn’t make you weak; in fact, it means you have your children’s best interests at heart. Not only does enlisting help mean you can focus more on yourself, but it stops you from spreading your germs and making your kids sick, too.

Even an hour or two to yourself can make a huge difference to your health, so whether it be your parents, your sibling, best friend, or a trusted neighbor, asking someone to watch the kids for a couple of hours can speed up your recovery.

Simple but nutritional foods

You do not want to be handling too much food if you’re not feeling well, which is why ensuring you have simple to make foods at hand can be great for everyone in the house. Of course, if your partner is able to feed the kids while you rest, this is ideal, but if not, your kids eating simple foods like pasta and a ready-made sauce or their favorite cereal for a couple of mornings isn’t going to cause malnourishment.

Prep a large bake of something for you to snack on throughout the week so that you do not have to worry about feeding yourself. Also, stock the cupboards with fruit juice and any medicines you may need.

Have an IV drip

It may sound overdramatic, but an IV drip is a great way to fuel your body with all the right nutrients quickly and in one sitting. This can aid in recovery from the flu. Reset IV Los Angeles is a door-to-door service where a registered nurse will administer the drip in the comfort of your own home.

Keep the kids entertained

A difficult task, of course, but not impossible. Get out their toys so that your children refamiliarize themselves with ones they may have forgotten about, turn on the TV and let them watch their favorite shows, ask them to read their books – there are many activities for them to do that it shouldn’t be too hard.

Of course, if you have a teenager who is old enough to take the reins while you have a nap, explain the situation and ask them to watch their younger siblings. You may need to give them the initiative to do so, but it’s better than nothing at all.

Explaining that you are not well can help your kids understand the situation and they may be on their best behavior so that you can get well sooner.
