5 Fun Family Activities For The Holidays

December 9, 2019 by Juliann

The holiday season is all about having fun together as a family. And if you’re like everyone else, then you’re always keeping a lookout for fun ideas for the family when it comes to entertainment during the holidays. While, it can be fun to sit around the house in your pajamas, making cookies, watching the usual holiday marathon of Star Wars, and playing boards, something’s it can just as fun for the whole family to get out and experience the holiday spirit in your local community. Here are some ideas for fun family activities during the holidays.

#5: Escape Room

As the escape room trend has been growing over the last couple of years, families are starting to engage locally when they’re in need of something fun, interesting, and challenging to do for the family on the weekends. But, why not try your luck during the holidays? Not only is it a great idea, because these escape company companies often experience a downswing in business during the holidays, sometimes they offer discounts if you visit during the less-visited days. Check Groupon for deals and discounts on escape rooms in your area. You’ll not only find a great deal, but you’ll also find something that the family can have fun doing together for a few hours during the Christmas season.

#4: Ugly Christmas Sweater Party

If you’ve got a big family, or are planning a big holiday party this year, then why not make it an ugly Christmas sweater party? When you send out your invitations this season, be sure to ask everyone to dress up in an ugly Christmas sweater. With the ugly Christmas sweater trend so big right now, finding a sweater is easy. You can purchase them at your local big-box store or online through a good outlet like UglyChristmasSweater.com, who has a huge selection of fun, ugly, and pop-culture ugly holiday sweaters, pajamas, suits, and costumes. Make it fun: Tell everyone that there will be an ugly sweater contest where judges can vote for their favorite ugly sweater with the winner getting a prize!

#3: Dinner Out / Holiday Movie Night

If your family doesn’t have big plans on Christmas Eve, or simply don’t celebrate it, or have a family at lives too far away to visit, why not make the best of the night, and take the family out to Chinese food and a movie! For many families in the United States, it’s become a bit of a holiday tradition. With many Chinese restaurants open during the holiday, there’s nothing as fun as sitting down with your loved ones and trying a hodgepodge of delicious Chinese food dishes before you head over to the movie theater to catch the perfect holiday movie.

#2: Walk / Run a Holiday 5K

With all the rich and decadent food that most people eat during the holidays, why not balance it all out during the week leading up to Christmas, by walking or running in a local Christmas 5K. Depending on where you live, a quick internet search should net someone a bevy of 5K events during the month of Christmas. Generally, you’ll find an ugly Christmas sweater 5K run or walk, 5K Christmas walks for charities, even 5K holiday walks that aimed at simply celebrating the holiday and raising the holiday spirit in your community. It’s affordable for the whole family to do, good for your health, and fun to be out with your family!

#1: Favorite Christmas Memory Reading

When it comes to bringing the family close together during the holidays why not organize a table read where all of your family sits down and each writes out their favorite memories of the holidays? Everyone takes a couple of minutes to write out their favorite family Christmas moment from the past years, and then each person reads them out loud. It’s a fun way to bring back the memories of the past years when all your family got together to celebrate the holidays. It’s also a fun way to pay tribute to your lost loved-ones who are no longer able to join the family during the holiday season.

Welcome to Beautiful Moms

Hi! I’m Juliann, a wife to my wonderful husband, Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I first started Beautiful Moms Blog in 2008, my goal was to connect with and support other moms who were in the thick of raising young children. It became a creative outlet where I could share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with companies that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It’s so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. I have always believed that every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she’s in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms Blog has grown and evolved right along with me. Today, my children are adults, and I have embraced the blessings of being a grandma. My passion for encouraging women hasn’t changed—it has simply expanded to include every season of motherhood, from pregnancy and the newborn years to raising teenagers, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

I’m excited to have my daughter, Myelie, as a contributor to Beautiful Moms. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood. She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a home wherever life takes you.

Together, we’re here to support women through every age and stage of motherhood—from pregnancy to menopause—with helpful advice, honest product recommendations, beauty and wellness tips, and plenty of encouragement along the way.

We are PR Friendly and love working with great companies!
