Introducing The Power of Good Fund by bareMinerals

April 5, 2019 by Juliann Leave a Comment

I absolutely love bareMinerals. In fact, I am currently wearing their foundation, blush and lip color, (which I plan to share with you in an upcoming post.) When I found out about  The Power of Good Fund by bareMinerals, it made me love this brand all the more!

bareMinerals has launched The Power of Good Fund by bareMinerals, which supports charities that empower women through education, mentorship and entrepreneurialism. In addition, bareMinerals employees throughout the US will devote 1% of their time each year – up to three full days – to volunteering at the causes they care about most.

To launch this initiative, bareMinerals has joined forces with three pioneering organizations: Girl Rising, Step Up and Grameen America that help women unleash their potential. “It was essential for us to find philanthropic collaborators that shared the same core values and mission to change the future,” says Jill Scalamandre, President of bareMinerals. “As the first clean beauty brand to launch 24 years ago, we wanted to be able to give back to all of the women who have supported us on our journey by helping and encouraging the next generation of women to reach their full potential.”

From April 1, 2019, bareMinerals will support the Power of Good Fund by donating 1% of sales from all US boutiques and bareMinerals.com to Hopewell Fund. Donations will be made on sales, less any returns or discounts, through the end of 2019 and include a minimum contribution of $500,000.

To kick off the launch, last night bareMinerals hosted the first of three free Brave Girl Rising screenings in partnership with The Wing, where clips from the original Girl Rising film were also shown. Two additional movie screenings will be held at The Wing Georgetown on April 3 and The Wing San Francisco on April 4. Following the screening, Jill Scalamandre and speakers from Girl Rising hosted a panel discussion about the importance of education and the impact investing in educating women has on the world. The night ended with attendees and guests packing school backpacks to be donated to the International Rescue Committee.

THE CHARITIES

Girl Rising According to a 2014 report by The World Bank, women with secondary school education can earn almost twice as much as those with no education at all, while girls who complete secondary school are better equipped to become healthier, more prosperous adults. Closing the gaps in girls’ education is a key cause for bareMinerals and so we partnered with Girl Rising, a non-profit that utilizes catalytic storytelling to raise awareness about the barriers that are keeping 130 million girls around the world from classrooms. This organization also works with local partners to implement life-altering programming that build skills and confidence in girls to change attitudes, behaviors and social norms. Girl Rising’s goal is to galvanize entire communities—girls, boys, parents, teachers, political and religious leaders—to stand up for girls and their education. bareMinerals is proud to support such an important mission of change.

Step Up Mentors are not readily available for women in the workforce. In fact, global executive search firm Egon Zehnder reported in 2017 that only 54 percent of women have access to senior female leaders who can act as mentors throughout their careers. To help bring more mentors into the lives of the young women who most need them, namely those in under-resourced communities, Step Up links teen girls to a network of professional women through after-school programs. These meaningful relationships cultivate confidence and leadership skills that allow young women to better navigate social, economic and gender barriers, as well as helping them to challenge today’s power structure for a better tomorrow. With new support from bareMinerals, Step Up aims to grow and serve over 8,000 girls by 2020.

Grameen America More women are running their own businesses than ever before, yet according to a 2014 study by the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, women receive only 4 percent of all small business loans from mainstream financial institutions. To help counteract this disappointing fact, bareMinerals has partnered with Grameen America—a program built on a Nobel Prize-winning model—which aims to alleviate poverty through female entrepreneurialism and small business funding. This innovative organization provides low-income women with microloans, business training, credit-building, savings programs and peer support so that they can effectively establish credit, scale their companies and create prosperity in their communities. Last year the organization reached an incredible milestone of investing $1 billion in microloans to over 110,000 women across the U.S.

Starting April 1, 2019, after making a purchase at a bareMinerals boutique or on bareMinerals.com, consumers will be able to cast a vote for the philanthropic pillar (education, mentorship or entrepreneurialism) that they feel most passionately about. These votes will help inform how donations to The Power of Good Fund by bareMinerals through Hopewell Fund are allocated, with bareMinerals committed to making donations to all three organizations.

As a clean, good-for-skin beauty brand, our goal is to continue to inspire change both big and small. Through these partnerships and the launch of The Power of Good Fund by bareMinerals, we are proud to help women look good, feel good and do good for themselves and the world around them. That’s bareMinerals. That’s THE POWER OF GOOD.
