Bacterial Eye Infection- Signs and Symptoms

February 19, 2019 by Juliann

Eyes are essential body parts that help us see things around. The horror awaits if this pair is taken out from us. Just imagine how you will perceive the world with nothing but all darkness, scary! Since our eyes play a very vital role in our lives, it is our responsibility to genuinely take good care of them and keep them away from the risks of eye impairment.

Our eyes are not free from bacterial attack. They are more exposed to bacteria, virus, fungi, and parasites, both in their outward and inward parts. Once gone close or wholly entered the eyes, these foreign agents can cause a hazard to the sight’s condition and can result in detrimental infections. Hence, you must be very watchful all the time and look after the warning signs that something not welcome has already come into your eyes!

Signs and Symptoms of Eye Bacterial Infection

Chronic but painless red eyes. If you are starting to notice a sudden shade of pink or red enclosing your entire eyes, maybe you should begin to suspect a micro bacteria invasion. Chronic redness is the common symptom that something foreign is in your eyes because it is their usual and initial reaction.

Redness of the eyes is the cause of infection to its vascular membrane called conjunctiva. This part is particularly thin and is very sensitive because it provides protection that covers the frontal surface of the eyes. Conjunctiva is more exposed to viral or bacterial infections compared to other parts of the eyes because it is where contact lenses are placed, making it more open to foreign microbes.

Painful eyes. Pain in the eyes can be a result of various health problems, even if it is not directly coming from the eyes. However, a foreign body that has entered in it can be blamed for its aching. Associated with the throbbing is the feeling of grittiness in which a person feels something sandy is covering the surface of his eyes and causes more pain.

However, since pain can be from other serious health problems, it is still recommended to refer the case to your physician, especially if the pain becomes intolerable and too extreme that it could already affect the quality of your vision and interferes your daily tasks.

Fluid Discharge. Your eyes are most likely suffering from bacterial or viral occurrences if fluids are coming out from them. The worst fact is that these fluids look gross most of the time. However, the discharge has distinctions if a bacteria or a virus causes it.

If the discharge from the eyes is a little watery, slippery and looks like a mucous, then your eyes are probably having viral conjunctivitis or viral infection. On the other hand, if your eyes secrete a fluid that has a yellow, white, or green appearance and is very heavy and thick, then your eyes are probably inhabited by bacteria.

The sensitivity of the eyes to the bright light. Sensitivity to light is a condition called photophobia where a person has little tolerance to any sources of bright light like the sunlight and even the fluorescent lamp. The eyes feel discomfort when directed toward the glow. This condition can be an effect of other health issues but can also be a cause of local pathogens hiding behind the internal parts of the eyes.

Moreover, like the redness in the eyes, photophobia can also be acquired because of too much use of contact lenses that may carry bacterial infection. Sunburn and surgical procedures can also cause too much sensitivity of the eyes, but the microbial influence is a more substantial reason.

Takeaway

The symptoms and warning signs listed above are experienced commonly by those who have already suffered from bacterial eye infections. However, each patient has a different and unique reaction to the microbial attack. So, some symptoms may not be accurate and evident to other patients. That is why further medical attention should be given especially when the warning signs are getting out of hands.

Nonetheless, if you think that you can still handle the condition of your eyes and you are only experiencing mild indications, then no need to cut a big chunk from your bankroll. Instead, you can just run to your nearest pharmaceutical center to avail price cutting promos like the AK Tracin Coupon– an eye bacterial infection treatment  that is offered for your reach!

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
