Oral health is a vitally important, but often overlooked, aspect of an individual’s general health and appearance. Although genetics play a role in how susceptible one is to many oral conditions, simple oral care can prevent or reduce most common oral conditions. In 2015, approximately 30% of adults in the USA reported that the condition of their mouth and teeth were fair with 20% stating that they experienced mild to severe anxiety due to the condition of their mouths.
As women we often neglect our own health and well-being while trying to juggle a demanding career with family responsibilities. We are aware of what we need to do to maintain good oral health but finding even a few minutes of alone-time each day to engage in these fundamental activities can be hard. Having a bright smile is not only a sign of good oral health but can contribute tremendously to boosting ones confidence by making you feel beautiful and desirable. Cosmetic dentistry is fast gaining popularity, as are home remedies and techniques that will help you achieve a beautiful, confident smile.
Whitening strips, gel and toothpaste
There is a wide range of whitening strips available on the market that generally retail for under $50 that are very easy to use in conjunction with other whitening products such as toothpaste and mouthwash. While whitening strips are extremely convenient, especially for busy moms, some users have experienced slight sensitivity after usage. If you experience any discomfort after use, seek advice from your dentist if you feel concerned. Similar to the strips, whitening gels and toothpastes can improve the appearance of your teeth leaving your smile brighter and whiter than ever before.
Coconut oil and peppermint leaf
Coconut oil mixed with mashed peppermint leaves is a newer remedy for teeth whitening. Like with apple cider vinegar, coconut oil is not an immediate solution for a whiter smile and works best when used over a prolonged period of time. Unlike the methods that contain baking soda, this one is completely safe and non-abrasive and should be used daily for optimal results. The coconut oil will also improve your general oral health and is great in healing receding and inflamed gums.
Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda are old remedies for yellow teeth. This remedy is fast-acting, easy and convenient – everything you need when while trying to balance a hectic lifestyle. By simply combining one part of baking soda with two parts of hydrogen peroxide to form a paste you are left with a substance that can easily be used as toothpaste. Don’t use the remedy more than 3 times a week as overuse of baking soda can deteriorate your tooth enamel.
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a common household item with countless uses which includes acting as a natural whitening agent. Combine one part baking soda with two parts apple cider vinegar you can form a paste to brush your teeth with. Alternatively, you can add a few drops of water to render a liquid that you can rinse your mouth with. You can also avoid using baking soda altogether and simply rinse your mouth or gargle with the apple cider vinegar.
While most women yearn for a beautiful smile we are often deterred by the processes involved in obtaining it. The above methods will help you significantly in obtaining the smile you have always desired and will leave you feeling more confident than ever before. It is recommended to always discuss any home remedies with your dental practitioner before engaging on something which may prove to be detrimental to your oral health.
