Five Lovely Ways to Involve Your Kids in Your Wedding Day

October 24, 2019 by Juliann

If you and your partner already have kids or you are planning your second marriage and you or your partner have children from a previous relationship, then you probably want them to be a big part of your wedding day. There are many different ways in which kids can get involved in your wedding, so the best step to take is to ask them how they would be comfortable getting involved and come up with age-appropriate ways to include them. Here are some of our favourite ways to get your kids involved in your wedding celebrations.

#1. Let Them Help with DIY Crafts:

Are you planning on getting crafty when it comes to things like your wedding invitations, wedding favours and table decorations for your reception? If so, then this is the perfect opportunity to get the little ones involved. They can help you with making wedding invitations and even put their own stamp on things. They can help out with simple tasks that will make a lovely personal touch like hand-writing the guests’ place cards.

#2. Include Them in Choosing the Cake:

Offering your kids the chance to have some cake for lunch will make you the coolest parent ever, and choosing the cake for your wedding day can easily become a fun activity to do together as a family. Allowing your kids to come with you to the cake tasting and to have a say in the final decision shows them that you care about their opinions and will make them feel really special. Plus, they will love telling guests that they helped choose the delicious cake!

#3. Make Them Bridesmaids and Groomsmen:

There are no rules that say all the members of your wedding party have to be adults, and your kids are usually the most natural choice when it comes to bridesmaids, groomsmen, page boys and flower girls. The roles that you choose for them will depend largely on their ages; kids older than ten will enjoy being a bridesmaid or a groomsman whilst younger children and toddlers make gorgeous flower girls and ring bearers.

#4. Let Them Help with Entertainment:

When it comes to choosing the entertainment for your wedding reception, there are plenty of things that you can get the kids involved in. For example, if you’re having a photo booth, then they can pick out the props for your guests, or if you have a musically gifted child, they might love the idea of being able to sing along with a live band – check out larkmusic.com.au for your live wedding music.

#5. Write them Into Your Vows:

Finally, what better way to involve your children in your wedding than writing them into your vows? This will not only make your kids feel super important and special on the big day, but it’s also a reminder to you both that you’re making a commitment to your family and not just each other.

Did you involve your kids in your wedding? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
