How Parents Can Ensure Consistency with Homeschooling

November 10, 2021 by Juliann

Learning and education have come a long way in the last decade, with the online schooling becoming a game-changer. The pandemic worked like a shot in the arm, and homeschooling emerged as the winning trend. Nothing sounds better than the idea of letting your child learn from home at their own pace and with a personalized learning style. The flexibility of the model makes it ideal for parents who do not want to be tied down with the traditional schooling norm. The only challenge you have to deal with is maintaining consistency because there are always chances of dropping the routine. But we have some easy measures that will help you stay consistent with homeschooling.

Adjust your expectations

Homeschooling is tricky for beginners- both parents and children. As a parent, you have to do your bit to help kids get used to it. It means double the pressure for you, but staying realistic makes it easy. Avoid expecting too much, specifically at the early stages. Your kids will probably struggle with their productivity levels when they study from home. They have to deal with distractions and a lack of schedule. Relax and let them align slowly at a comfortable pace. It means you may have to adjust your expectations on a daily basis, so be ready until your child hits the sweet spot.

Seek support from the school and fellow parents

Homeschooling can get overwhelming if your child has always gone to a traditional school. For example, enrolling your child in a British Online School Year 3 leads to a completely different experience for students and parents. Things can be a tad easier if you start early, right from grade 1. Thankfully, your learning partner can extend the support you need to streamline homeschooling and ensure consistency with the schedule. Connect with the teachers and fellow parents to get helpful insights into dealing with your challenges. You can even find forums or social media groups where parents come together to discuss concerns and offer support for those struggling with homeschooling challenges. Things will be a lot easier when you have support.

Bring regularity with a routine

When your child studies from home, a regular routine is all they need to be consistent with studies. It reduces stress for you as a parent and keeps the student motivated at all times. Start by outlining a rough schedule for each day and consider ways to align it with your routine. Divide the day into blocks for specific subjects and ensure extra time for each subject. Maintain the routine day after day but keep some room for flexibility if you need to skip a class due to work or an emergency. Working parents can utilize weekends to cover the gaps. Finally, set aside time to unwind during the day because the child will need it.

Maintaining consistency with homeschooling is less challenging than it sounds, provided you follow these best practices. Support your child and help them stick with the routine until they are old enough to handle the responsibility on their own.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
