How to Create a Healthier Home

September 26, 2018 by Juliann

Owning a home can be one of the most joyful experiences in a person’s life. Regardless of whether you are living alone, with your family, or with a partner, there are some wonderful memories that take place under every roof. However, it can also come with some stresses, as there are many homes across the country that are becoming a detriment to the general health of their inhabitants. Your home should add to your quality of life, and not just in how comfortable it is. To help you create a healthier, happier home, it’s essential to follow some key tips.

Clean regularly

When you live in a cluttered and messy home, it will likely start to have some negative effects on your health. Clutter gathers dust, which can be bad for your breathing, especially if you suffer with respiratory problems. Not only this, but it can hide issues like damp spots if you aren’t cleaning regularly. When you have a family living with you, finding the time to clean can be tricky, which is why many people choose to enlist the help of a cleaning service in Newburgh NY (261 Liberty St, Newburgh NY 12550), such as America’s Cleaning Service.

Make the most of natural light

When it comes to your health, your mental wellbeing should never be ignored. Living in a dark home can cause your skin health to deteriorate, but it can also be tough for people with mental health issues like depression. Luckily, this is something that can be easily resolved. Bringing natural light into your home can be done by installing wide windows, but you can follow a cheaper alternative by placing mirrors in strategic locations around your house, or painting it with a lighter color scheme. On darker days, you should consider investing in a UV lamp to prevent problems like Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) from occurring.

Purify the air

Cleaning your home regularly is arguably one of the best ways to keep the air in your home free from dust. Yet there are some other small steps you can take if your home is susceptible to moist air, or air which has little oxygen in it. For example, having a humidifier in rooms where moisture gathers. One other simple trick is to fill your home with colorful potted plants, which will transform any dirty air into clean, oxygenated air that does wonders for your breathing, mind, and skin. If you want to keep clutter to a minimum, opening your windows during the day could work better for you.

Filter your tap water

There are many areas which boast clean tap water, which is safe to drink almost always. Unfortunately, there are some parts of the country which do not. Some tap water can contain high levels of minerals that your body does not need, but it can also contain toxins. To ensure your tap water is safe to drink, you should filter it before you drink it. Many fridges come with inbuilt filters, but you can also buy a simple filter jug if you are trying to save money.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
