How to Host a Wedding In Your Backyard

January 24, 2018 by Juliann

Weddings are beautiful and memorable events, but they are also quite expensive when formally organized. Some couples opt to just go down to city hall and get married in their jeans, but there is something about the pop and circumstance of more formal affairs that makes many brides-to-be willing to go into debt. One good compromise is a backyard wedding that offers the familiarity of a home setting, but with all of the bells and whistles of one hosted in a church.

Walmart bakery wedding cakes are affordable and customizable, so you can have a centerpiece that is beautiful as well as economical. With a backyard wedding, you can get decorations from the dollar store, opt for rented speakers instead of a live DJ, and keep your costs down by avoiding renting a venue. If you are truly interested in having a wonderful wedding without a high price tag, here are some backyard wedding options you for.

Planning For The Time of Year

One drawback of hosting a wedding outdoors is that you have to be aware of weather conditions. If it rains, you are going to need tents to keep everyone dry and comfortable. Weddings that take place during late fall or in the dead of winter can be difficult to arrange outdoors as well. Firepits can add warmth and character if it is going to be chilly when your backyard wedding is being hosted. Likewise, backyard pools also work great for weddings held during the summer months. Use the time of year help you to pick a theme and mood for your outdoor wedding and make it more stylish.

Seating and Arrangements

Weddings ceremonies take time to perform, so there has to be somewhere for your guests to sit. You might want to rent benches or even padded folding chairs so that your guests are patient throughout your nuptials. How you arrange your wedding seating will also have an effect on the way everything looks. Should you decide to opt for tables for your reception, you will need lots of help moving everything around.

Backyard Wedding Entertainment

The entertainment portion of weddings is usually referred to as the reception. Some married couples have their wedding ceremonies in one location and then host the reception elsewhere, but if you are keeping your costs down you can do everything in the same place. What you can do to separate the wedding event from the reception is make sure that the entertainment is extremely lively. Move the tables and chairs out of the way to make room for the dancefloor and turn the speakers up to get the guests moving. If the reception is going to take place at night, you can use lighting to really set the mood. Fog and bubble machines can help you to create more dramatic wedding pictures, and they’re also delightful to wedding guests.

All that is needed to arrange a backyard wedding is space, time, decorations, and of course, lots of guests. Go with what you know and plan something out that makes you feel happy. Remember that you and your spouse are going to be the ones who are footing the bill.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
