How to Lessen the Burden of Home Maintenance

January 28, 2022 by Juliann

As the size of your family grows, so will the maintenance needs around the house. It may be a few extra small chores here and there, or more major repairs needed in various parts of the home. Whatever the case, you have to do everything in your power to lessen that burden on everyone if you want to maintain some harmony in your household. In the long run, this clearly means getting everyone involved as much as possible. But it goes beyond that. There’s more that you can do to make things easier around the house and it comes down to additional planning and resource utilization.

Do You Need Assistance?

First, ask yourself if you and your family can actually comfortably handle all of this on your own. Sometimes it’s possible, but in other cases, you might come to the harsh realization that things just aren’t going to keep moving forward without external assistance. Hiring help is not as expensive as you might think, and it can relieve you of a significant part of the burden associated with keeping your home in check on a daily basis. That way, you can focus on smaller tasks that are easier to handle, or those that require your full attention.

Use Low-maintenance Options

Try to switch some things around the house with low-maintenance counterparts too. There are some obvious points to address here that most people are already familiar with – like getting a dishwasher to streamline the process of keeping the kitchen clean. But you should try thinking outside the box too. Look for a supplier of synthetic grass in Texas, for example – this option is not only easier and cheaper to maintain, but it can also be better for the environment in the long run.

Develop a Schedule and Stick to It

Chores are annoying and nobody likes doing them. That said, things can get a lot easier if you just develop a schedule and ensure that everyone sticks to it as best as possible. It doesn’t have to be completely strict – small deviations are okay, as long as everyone is on board with them, and the person responsible agrees to pick up their work later. The important thing here is to show everyone that they are equally involved in the maintenance of the home, and to give everyone a fair share of the work. This will also build some strong values in your kids over time, something you should definitely not underestimate.

Some of these things may take a bit of time and effort to implement, but they will be well worth it in the long run. Once you’ve got the basic groundwork in place, it will get easier over time to keep things in check and ensure that everyone is contributing their fair bit. And of course, if any conflicts arise, make sure to address them as early as possible. Don’t let these things fester for a long time, because this will only lead to people progressively ignoring their responsibilities more and more.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
