Obscure Parts of the Body that are Important when it comes to your Health

March 22, 2022 by Juliann Leave a Comment

The human body is a maze of complex and important organs that need to work in tandem to achieve a healthy life. You will have been educated about all of the vital parts while in elementary school. Organs like the heart, brain, lungs, liver, stomach, and kidneys are all big parts of your system, and the failure of one of these can be debilitating.

However, other parts of your body work tirelessly to keep you going, and they do not get the attention that they deserve. As such, this article will look at some of the more obscure parts of the body and how they are responsible for keeping you healthy.

Spleen

The spleen is something that you may have heard of before but never in a context that helps you to understand it. This organ can be found on the left side of your stomach, and it is no bigger than your heart. Your spleen is responsible for storing blood, creating white blood cells, and removing damaged blood cells from your system. This organ is the most important part of your immune system, creating the antibodies that you need to survive.

Since the spleen is vital for maintaining the fluid levels in your system, you will find that the best way to take care of it is by drinking lots of water. You should only feel its existence if there is a problem, so try to stay hydrated.

Thyroid Gland

You have probably heard of the thyroid gland before but do not know its function as with the spleen. This gland is situated in your neck, behind the windpipe, and is a key part of your body’s metabolism. Your metabolism is needed for the breakdown of food into energy, and it is also responsible for bodily growth.

The thyroid gland is rarely affected by diseases, but it can happen. Things like cancer do attack your glands, which is why it is important to check up on it once in a while with a thyroid MRI. A thyroid MRI is an obscure procedure, but you can learn all about the exact details at Ezra. Your thyroid gland can be removed so long as you take the proper hormones in extreme circumstances. Every gland is responsible for secreting a specific hormone that is needed for your development. Make sure you are staying healthy by getting them checked when necessary.

Gallbladder

Possibly one of the most unfortunate parts of the body to discuss, your gallbladder is responsible for storing and removing bile from your body. The human liver releases bile as it performs its regular functions, but too much of this bile is harmful to the rest of the body. Therefore, your gallbladder acts as a storage solution for this excess bile until your body is ready to release it.

The gallbladder is the right-hand man to your liver, which means that you can take care of it by avoiding large amounts of alcohol. Also, you can take care of it by eating plenty of fruits and decreasing your intake of fried foods. Sudden pain in your right shoulder could be a sign that your gallbladder is not functioning properly, so make sure you see a doctor if this occurs.

Uvula

You may have never heard of the uvula before; however, there is a high chance that you have seen one before. This gland is located at the back of your throat and is responsible for producing salvia. It might not sound useful, but saliva is important for digestion. This is the first stage in breaking up your food, which means a failure to produce saliva may put more strain on your digestive system.

It is possible for your uvula to swell and underperform if you have a cold or flu. There isn’t much that you can do to prevent this as the cold virus is always mutating. However, you can speed up recovery by drinking plenty of warm fluids and bed rest.

Diaphragm

The diaphragm is a muscle that sits under your lungs and above your stomach. Its main function is to control things entering or leaving your stomach. For example, this muscle will contract to allow bile to rise when you vomit.

This is an extremely important part of your body and works just like any other muscle. It is quite hard to exercise; however, strong abdominal breathing will help. Weakness of the diaphragm can cause disturbed breathing when lying down. You can prevent this with a proper breathing technique or regular exercise.

Summary

Your body is a temple and should be treated as such. Now you have all of the extra details that you need to look after your lesser-known organs and keep yourself in perfect shape. Staying healthy isn’t as hard as it sounds, so try to implement the advice in this article to stay ahead of your fitness levels.
