Overhaul Your Home Decor on a Budget

May 14, 2019 by Juliann

Owning a home costs a lot of money. And if you have kids, your financial situation could be a little tight. This often leaves sprucing up your home on the backburner. But what if there was a way to revamp your home with beautiful home decor designs that didn’t break the bank? Luckily, we’re here to help. If you’re strapped for cash but can’t stand how the interior of your house looks, consider these easy steps to overhauling your home decor on a budget.

Find Coupons

Many companies and online retailers offer sales, coupons, and promo codes. Most home items go on sale at the end of the season, just like winter jackets going on sale as spring rolls around. Another way to save on money when investing in home decor is by looking for free shipping options if you buy online. Paying for shipping is always an annoying cost, but sometimes buying online is the only option if the item you’re looking for isn’t in a store near you.

Do you need to breathe some new life into your living room? Try looking into popular home furnishing stores such as Wayfair, Home Depot, or Ashley’s furniture and inquire about any current coupons or deals. How about your bedroom? Sleep in luxury by using a Peacock Alley discount and coupon code for the best quality sheets you can find for your bedroom or guest room. Many big-name stores have customer loyalty rewards programs and credit cards that give you additional perks as well. Never be too shy to ask customer service about discounts. After all, it’s your money on the line!

Perform DIY Projects

To revamp your home while saving some coin, you need to create a budget. Setting a budget will allow you to handle your finances without adding any stress. The best way to save on home decor is by taking matters into your own hands. You don’t need to be the next Picasso to decorate your walls with beautiful paintings. Instead, buy affordable paintings online or in local retailers and build your own picture frame using tutorials online.

There are DIY project ideas for anything imaginable. If you’re a stay-at-home mom with time on your hands, expensive projects can be made cheap if you do them yourself. You can save a few thousand dollars installing your own vinyl or linoleum flooring and a few hundred on installing a backsplash in your kitchen! Home improvement projects like these may seem daunting at first, but if you do your research, you’ll realize how easy and affordable they are to complete yourself!

Go Thrifting

Shopping second hand is an extremely cost-effective way to overhauling your home decor on a budget. From tag sales to thrift stores, and reuse centers to online bargain sites, you can get state-of-the-art or antique furniture and decorative pieces at enormously low prices. Here are some ways you can get the most bang for your buck if you want to renew and refresh your home:

●Check the Facebook Marketplace for people selling in your area

●Download a Yard Sale App on your smartphone

●Visit local thrift stores such as Goodwill and the Salvation Army. You never know what you’ll stumble upon!

●Go on Freecycle, a worldwide network of free things ready for a new home

Sell Online

Going out with the old and in with the new will turn your home around while still saving you money. Do you have items in your house you no longer want? Selling your goods online is one job every mom can do at home. Doing so will help you declutter while still making revenue, allowing you to save up for that new living room sofa you’ve had your eye on or kitchen appliance you’ve been dying to use.

Repaint

Sometimes all you need is a fresh coat of paint to spruce up your home. Painting a room yourself is an affordable project that won’t take too much time and can make a world of difference. Nervous about which coating will look the best? Use your smartphone and download Paint Tester, an app that allows you to test different colors on your wall before taking the plunge!

Rearrange

Lastly, simply rearranging your home is a way to overhaul your home decor if your family is facing financial difficulties. Comb through your attic and basement and look for decorative pieces you forgot you had. Dust them off and find a new home for them in any room of your house! Or, try repurposing furniture pieces such as chairs, tables, bookshelves, and drawers by stripping the paint and adding a new layer of fresh paint or oak-ey wood stain.

Wrapping Up

No matter what your financial situation is, livening up your house on a budget with home decor pieces will boost your creativity while keeping your savings account happy. Set time aside to do projects yourself, or research your local areas for free or reduced secondhand items that will look great in your home!

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
