As the proud human servant to three cats with three completely different personalities, I can tell you firsthand that there are many things to love about sharing your home with furry feline family members. Well, maybe not when it comes to cleaning up after them. I can’t say that’s one of my favorite things.
I will admit—Walter, Brenda, and Dabney provide plenty of entertainment around here. Walter is my big, fluffy orange teddy bear who loves everyone. If he isn’t curling up next to me on the couch or snuggling with my grandbabies, he can often be found trying to sneak into a visitor’s car to go home with them. Brenda, on the other hand, is a feisty little calico diva. She has an unsettling way of staring you down, literally glaring at anyone who looks her way. She’ll happily let you pet her, while she purrs really loud to show her pleasure. But if you dare stop before she decides you’re finished, you may pay for it with an angry swipe from her sharp claw. Then there’s Brenda’s son, Dabney, a big handsome grey boy with velvety fur who’s extremely sweet, yet very shy around most people. He loves mercilessly teasing his mother and chasing her around until she growls at him, and he enjoys playfighting with Walter.
I adore all three of them, I really do. Aside from their fur-flying shenanigans that wake me up at night, the constant shedding, the furniture scratching, and those gross, random puke piles I inevitably step in, I’d have to say that cleaning out their stinky litter box messes is probably the worst cat-parent chore ever. That’s why I was excited to discover Red Rocket Pets, a family-founded company that creates clever products designed to make life with pets cleaner, easier, and a whole lot more convenient. I was given the opportunity to try out a few of their sanity-saving products, and I’d like to share them with all of my fellow cat lovers.
A Smarter Way to Deal With Litter Box Waste
The Kitty TWIST’R® Waste Disposal System is basically a much cleaner and more convenient way to deal with what comes out of the litter box. Instead of scooping yucky cat poo into a bag or trash can and letting the smell fester until garbage day, this unique system uses Red Rocket Pets’ patented TWIST’R technology to seal litter waste and odors inside the liner. And it really is simple. You just dump in the scooped-up waste and give the system a twist. The liner seals the mess away, helping keep odors contained instead of allowing them to stink up your home. That’s what I appreciate most. With three whole cats, litter box cleanup is obviously an around the clock event at my house! Being able to scoop, twist, and seal everything away makes the whole process feel cleaner and far less disgusting.
I also love that this disposal system doesn’t take up a ton of room. It measures approximately 17 inches tall and 10 inches in diameter (13 inches wide with the scoop holder), so it can sit conveniently next to the litter box without becoming another giant pet contraption taking over the room. It has high walls and a raised rim that help contain litter scatter and messy pee sprays, plus smooth, contoured curves that make the corners easier to clean.
One feature I especially like is the detachable dustpan and brush, which attach right to the tray so they’re always within reach when you need to sweep up those little trails of stray litter and kitty turd crumbles that cats somehow manage to scatter everywhere. The set includes the tray, rim, litter brush, and litter pan, and the overall design feels much more modern and thoughtfully put together than the standard plastic square litter box. While I was learning all about Red Rocket Pets, another product caught my eye: the Kitty Cave. Apparently, I should have bought three. Walter, Brenda, and Dabney love this thing and take turns—well, fight over—who gets to curl up inside. (And somehow its Dabney that usually prevails.)
The Kitty Cave is essentially a cozy little bedroom just for cats, complete with a soft, super-plush cushion that makes it perfect for curling up, twisting into those silly sleeping positions only cats are capable of, and getting in some serious kitty ZZZs. At approximately 15.7 x 17.7 x 12.6 inches, it gives cats a snug, enclosed spot where they can feel comfy and secure without taking up much space.
Did I mention it’s also easy to clean? Wipe it or shake it out, and you’re done. Anything that doesn’t turn into another major cleanup chore is a big win for me! Judging by the amount of competition for sleeping rights around here, Walter, Brenda, and Dabney give the Kitty Cave three paws up. (Or twelve paws, technically).
