Once the kids are off to school, many former stay-at-home moms are looking to re-enter the workforce. Some have degrees and careers from pre-mom days while others are looking for jobs they’d be good at, even if they need a little training. When it comes to being a mother, there are just some things you are naturally good at, so what is it you liked most about being a mom? That would be a very good place to start. Here are some examples that moms are just naturally great at.
1. Nursing
As a mom, you are a caregiver extraordinaire. Why not consider going into nursing? You can begin as an LPN and work towards becoming an RN online while you’re on the job. Nursing is a great career for those moms who want to bring their sense of compassion and caring to a whole new level.
2. Vet Tech
Another job perfect for those who love caring for others would be to explore the possibility of becoming a vet tech. While not working with people, if you love animals, this would be perfect! You can check out the best vet tech schools around the nation, find one near you, and before you know it you will have a job that suits you – and brings in an income, of course.
3. Life Coach
Ah, the trials and tribulations of parenting. Once you have gone through the many challenges of managing a family, it isn’t much of a stretch to help others find their own calling. We have too few life coaches who actually have experience in the real world and so, this might be a perfect opportunity to fill a void. A degree in social work wouldn’t hurt, but it isn’t absolutely necessary. Help others discover their true purpose in life.
4. Cosmetologist
Do you remember the days of sending your little girls off to school with their braids, ponytails, and ribbons? There’s just something so satisfying when you can make someone look so pretty. Why not get your cosmetology license in your state and get a job making everyone who sits in your chair look their very best? How rewarding is that?
5. Retail Sales
The great thing about retail sales these days is that you don’t even need to leave the home to enter the world of retail. You can set up shop online in marketplaces like Amazon or eBay, or you can simply develop your own online marketplace, become an affiliate marketer, and work your way around the web selling products from the comfort of your home. Still a stay-at-home mom? This might be the perfect job for you.
6. Daycare Operator
Now you have experience with kids. Why not open your own daycare center? If you miss little ones around all the time and you have a real love for those little people, opening a daycare would be ideal. Most states require you to be licensed and some states require some level of education before you can be the owner of a daycare center, but if you love working with kids, it’s worth a little extra effort to qualify to run your own daycare.
Stereotypical as it may sound, moms are simply natural in some professions. Look at your passions and then pursue a career. If you love what you do, then make a career out of it! In time, you’ll find your niche, but when you do – watch out world!
