The 5 Top Things to Avoid that cause harm to your eyes, lases and brows

July 21, 2011 by Juliann Leave a Comment

Buyers Beware!

When it comes to eye makeup selection, what do you consider?

Color?Brand?  Packaging?  But are you reading the most important part of the package?

What other common products/activities do you need to keep an “eye” out for?

Founder and President of EnvyDerm Cosmetics,  Nadia Smith, has provided the top 5 things to avoid that cause harm to your eyes, lashes and brows.

5. Avoid Makeup in Motion

Though it seems ideal for those on the run, avoid makeup application in a car, train or bus. A sudden halt, bump or drop, may leave you with a serious injury. Whether applying mascara or eyeliner, manage to find some time in your morning routine to apply makeup in the home or office. Even a slight scratch in your eye can lead to a more serious problem down the line.

4. Don’t Share Avoid sharing or exchanging your eye products with anyone!

This could easily lead to an infection. When sampling at a cosmetics/retail store apply eye makeup with single-use applicator. If you need to test an eye shadow, test it on the back of your hand instead of your eye.

3. DIY Disaster

There are many DIY kits for lash extensions and lash/brow tinting available for purchase. When it comes to lash extensions chose the product wisely. The glue used may be harmful to your eyes and/or lead to pulling out your lashes and causing irritation when removed. Make sure there is no formaldehyde or cyano acrylate in the glue used. Though it sounds convenient to test products in the comfort of your own home, my advice is to avoid lash and brow dyeing/tinting. Eyelash and brow tinting may cause stinging and watery eyes, or worse— an allergic reaction. Though it is not recommended, if you plan to give it a try, be sure to test the dye on your skin prior to applying it to the eyes or brows. I recommend using a shadow to darken the color of your brows instead.

2. Infected Makeup

To avoid infections, discard and replace your eye makeup regularly. Mascara should be changed every three months. Sharpen your eye pencil before ever application, to avoid both scratching your eye and to keep it clean. If you wear contact lenses, be sure to change your products more frequently. If you have had an eye infection, discard any eye cosmetics used and refresh your supplies.

1. Harmful Chemicals:

Always read the ingredients on the packaging of any products you purchase. Do your research!

Whether purchasing mascara or eye makeup remover, make sure all ingredients used are safe. Phthalate, sulfate, Propylene Glycol and sodium hydroxymethylglycinate are just a few of the harmful ingredients that could be in your cosmetics bag. As mentioned, I would recommend sticking to products with natural ingredients like EnvyDerm Eyelash Growth Serum, a gentle, clinically-tested non-prescription formula that promotes natural eyelash growth www.envyderm.com
