Things to do when Buying Clothes for your Children

May 7, 2021 by Juliann

If you have ever had to buy clothes for your children, you will likely appreciate that it can be challenging. There are many things to consider (e.g., fit, size, style, colour, etc) and whether you as the parent will like it and if the child does, too. This can be made even more stressful if you are shopping with the child and are under a time constraint. So …

1. Ask for their opinion, tailor to their likes

Since the child is the one who will be wearing the clothes, it is important to ask them what types of clothing they would like to wear. Obviously, depending on the age of the child, this tip becomes more or less relevant. However, if your child is old enough, asking for their opinion is always a good idea, as it can ensure that you are both happy with the choices made. So, if they are into a certain show or film such as Star Wars, shopping on sites such as 8ball.co.uk, will cater to their preferences. Or perhaps, they have a favorite colour and would like to wear more clothes within that colour. Or, your child might have even developed a liking for a particular clothing style. So, always ask them as this can ensure they feel comfortable in their clothes, which of course, is very important.

2. Give yourself enough time

If you are planning to go on a shopping spree or even if you only anticipate buying a few items for your child, make sure you schedule in enough time to do so. After all, you do not want to rush, panic, make the wrong decision and eventually have to go back to return it, as this can often be a tedious and time-consuming task. The goal is to make good use of your time, purchase clothing that you and your child like, while experiencing the least amount of stress as possible. One of the best ways to do this is by taking the necessary time out of the day to shop.

3. Use a dressing room to try out the clothes

Another useful tip is to, if possible, try out the clothes within the store to ensure they are the right fit. Although this may make your shopping experience longer, it will most likely save you time in the long term. This is because it will reduce the likelihood of you having to return the clothes, because trying them when in the store will assure you that they are appropriate and well-suited to your child.

4. Choose high-quality fabric

For babies and younger children in particular, it is important to buy clothes that use high-quality and comfortable fabrics, so that your little one’s skin is safe and protected. Make sure the fabric for your child is soft and breathable.

Fabrics such as cotton (for breathability and comfort) and fleece (for warmth) are good examples. Also, make sure there are no uncomfortable or scratchy tags within the clothing that could potentially irritate your child’s skin.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
