Top Tips for Reducing Stress Over the Festive Season

November 23, 2021 by Juliann

The holidays are a lovely time of year that plenty of people can get excited about. There is always festive décor to get you in the mood, special events in the weeks leading up to Christmas, and lots of delicious treats that you get to indulge in, too! However, despite all of this, the festive season can also be stressful as there is a lot to prepare for and it can get expensive. If you are feeling more apprehensive than excited about the holidays this year, here are some tips to help you get into the Christmas Spirit and reduce stress.

Buying Gifts

No one enjoys the panic of last-minute gift shopping, so make sure you buy your presents for everyone in advance. If you are doing most of your gift shopping online, starting sooner rather than later is even more essential, as you might find there are delays in deliveries during this busy period. If you’re struggling with ideas on what to get your loved ones, look at sites like this one with Christmas gifts for women, children, and men for inspiration. You should also set a budget for how much you are willing to spend on gifts as this can get expensive. If you have a large group of friends and you usually buy each other gifts, consider suggesting doing Secret Santa this year if you want to save money. Additionally, if you happen to have an adventurer in your life, you could consider exploring special Christmas gifts for the hiker or photographer. This might be practical and thoughtful gear, such as comfortable camera carriers and hiking accessories, ensuring your gift will be both functional and appreciated on their next outdoor adventure

Food

Another thing that can get expensive to buy over the holiday season is the food, especially if you are cooking for a large group of people. It’s a good idea to plan your Christmas menu to make sure you can get all of the right ingredients before the stores run out. In addition to this, consider carefully what other snacks and treats you want to have in your cupboards over the holiday season. It’s very easy to end up wasting food at this time of year, so try to be mindful that you’re not buying more than you and your family will eat so food doesn’t go to waste.

Decorations

It can be tempting to buy a fresh batch of festive decorations at this time of year but only do this if it’s truly necessary. When you’re preparing to decorate your home for the holidays, use this as an opportunity to go through your Christmas decorations to see if you can make room for new ones. You could even think about making decorations with your kids as a fun, festive family activity! Wreathmaking, in particular, can be an excellent way to get yourself into the mood for the holiday season.

Make Sure to Have Some Downtime

Between buying gifts, food, decorating your house, and attending the inevitable social events that happen at this time of year, it can be easy to forget about taking some time out for yourself. If you want to make sure you’re enjoying the festive season rather than it becoming a chore for you, be careful not to overbook yourself. Have at least one weekend set aside before Christmas where you can relax at home and do things at your leisure rather than trying to fit around other people’s schedules.

If you are dreading the holiday season because you often find it stressful, use the tips above to help you get organized and start enjoying the festivities instead.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
