Marukan is a 350 year-old rice vinegar company which offers a wide array of Non-GMO products enjoyed by professional and aspiring chefs alike. While most people associate vinegar with the familiar red and white options they’ve probably been buying all their lives, discerning chefs know that rice vinegar is the secret ingredient that can add a fresh accent to anything from sushi to grilled fish to steak to salads.
Rice Vinegar can be used simply to replace regular vinegar in any recipe or application, for a lighter and less pungent flavor.
I did not know that rice vinegar was so delicious or that it could make such a difference in flavor!. I had only been familiar with apple cider and white vinegar. I was sent samples of Marukan Rice Vinegar in Ponzo, Seasoned Gourmet and Genuine Brewed flavors to review.
- 3 tbsp Seasoned Gourmet Rice Vinegar, divided
- 2 avocados
- 8 oz cooked crab meat, imitation crab or cooked baby shrimp
- 2 stalks celery, finely chopped
- 3 tbsp minced onion
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1/8 tsp dill weed
- dash white pepper
- head lettuce
- 8 tomatoe wedges (optional)
Instructions:
1. Halve avocados lengthwise; remove seeds and skin.
2. Place 1 Tbsp vinegar in small plate; roll avocado halves in vinegar to lightly coat.
3. Combine crab, celery, onion, mayonnaise, dill, pepper and remaining 2 Tbsp vinegar; mix well.
4. Spoon into cavity of each avocado half, mounding over cut side as needed to use all the mixture.
5. Serve on lettuce leaves and garnish with tomatoe wedges, as desired. Makes 4 servings.
This salad was delicious! I also enjoyed the Ponzu Premium Soy Dressing w/Sudachi Citrus in a stir-fry I made last night and the Genuine Brewed flavor on a dinner salad for the perfect touch of tartness.
