For me, Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be the same without Brach’s Conversation Hearts. I look forward to them every single year! In fact, I was craving them so much after last Valentine’s day, that I made my husband go to every drug store in town to check the clearance isles for leftover Brach’s® Conversation Hearts. Now THAT is TRUE LOVE!
I really loaded up on Brach’s® Valentine’s Day Candy this year, so I think I have enough to last awhile! I hope!
I have fond memories of my childhood, when my sweet mom would bake her delicious Valentine’s Day sugar cookies for all of us to decorate at the kitchen table. It got really messy, but I remember how much fun it was to decorate my masterpiece with Brach’s® Conversation Hearts.
I have carried on this tradition every year with my own children.I only have one child still at home, but it is still a lot of fun.
Here is the sugar cookie recipe that I always use. (It is similar to my mother’s sugar cookie recipe.) I borrowed this recipe from Allrecipes.com by Emily Williams.
The Best Valentine Sugar Cookies
“Roll these cookies a little thick and cook them until barely golden on the bottom and you have the perfect sugar cookie.”
Ingredients
7 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups white sugar
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 cups shortening
3 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 Cup milk
3 eggs
Directions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
In a large mixing bowl, mix together flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Mix in shortening. Once the shortening is well blended, stir almond flavoring and milk into the dough at the same time, followed by eggs. Roll out dough onto a floured surface, using a floured rolling pin. Roll the dough thick. Cut out cookies and arrange them on a cookie sheet.
Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 8 to 10 minutes, or just until bottom is golden.
Decorate with any kind of frosting, and all kinds of Brach’s® Conversation Hearts and candies!
