3 Ideas for Staying Motivated at Work This Winter

September 12, 2022 by Juliann

Winter is just around the corner, and the nights will soon be drawing in. But we still have to get up, get out and go to work. It is easy to become demotivated in the long, cold spells and that is why it is essential to protect our mental well-being at all costs to combat the low moods that are all too keen to creep on in. If work is a particular boon, it is time now to think of ways to make the season run more smoothly. Here are five ideas to combat the cold front and help you feel motivated to push through those long, cold workdays.

A Nice Space to Come Home To

Waking up and going to sleep are key moments in the workday. To wake up in the right frame of mind for a productive day at the office, make your bedroom into a space that supports relaxation and tranquility. Decorate it in peaceful tones, adorn it with tasteful accessories, and strive to minimize clutter throughout the home environment. Similarly, when returning to your quarters at the end of the long day, make reservations for creating warmth and coziness. Have a blanket on standby, consider a smart thermostat to avoid opening the door to a continued cold front, and keep the kitchen cupboard well stocked with warm drinks and healthy snacks.

Make Lunchtime a Haven

Maintaining a balanced diet may feel unachievable while keeping up with the demands of a modern work schedule. However, it is one of those things that is unavoidable if you want to support general well-being. Planning your meals instead of relying on external vendors is one of the easiest methods to ensure balance, and nutritional value and you will feel 100 times more motivated to finish the afternoon’s agenda if your food intake is supportive to your stomach, digestive system, and brain. Consider adding a personal flair to your lunch carrier with a luxurious and multi-purpose bag option. Any steps you take to tailor the experience towards suiting your preferences will inspire productivity and an irreplaceable sense of self-worth.

Have an Activity Outside of Work

Last but not least, try to keep your social life ticking outside of the working hours. It is difficult when the days are shorter to find inspiration to socialize, but it is essential for promoting positive mental health practices. There are alternatives to trekking out in the cold and meeting outside, for example, taking turns hosting a movie or games night. Whichever shape it takes, the primary principle is to make sure it happens. Humans find support in one another, and a friendship group has irreplaceable benefits.

Working through the winter months is not easy. Humans naturally shy away from the cold fronts that sweep across the country, and it can be a challenge to simply get up and out of bed when we are all too aware of what the commute ahead will demand. Stay motivated by looking after yourself and keeping up with the subtle factors as they tend to have the biggest impact.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
