It’s always good to have a hobby or a project on the go to keep you occupied in your spare time, and this year many people have had to find new and interesting activities to do at home. If you have been making your way through books, TV shows, or experimenting with new recipes during the lockdowns this year, why not try one of these five fun projects for a more productive day, and to learn new skills?
1. Upcycle Your Clothes
Are you a lover of fashion? If so, why not try your hand at designing some clothes, or revamping some of the items in your closet? If you have any old t-shirt, jeans, or any other clothing that could do with refreshing, find some experimental ways to add some new flair to them. For example, altering the hemlines, or adding some embroidery. You could even get yourself some shoe paint from online stores such as Manhattan Wardrobe Supply to spruce up an old pair of sneakers.
2. Redecorating
If you’re getting bored with being at home, making some changes to it could be a good way to make it feel brand new. It’s a project that will certainly keep you occupied while you’re stuck at home, and it doesn’t have to be expensive, either. Explore different interior designs and think about what new look you’d like your home to have and create a new, fresh living environment for yourself.
3. Gardening
If you’re happy with your home’s interior, take a step outside, and focus on making changes to your garden. Even a process as simple as growing herbs and vegetables could be a fun new project for you to occupy your mind with, and it will be satisfying to use your home-grown produce in the kitchen! If you prefer your garden to be filled with pretty flowers, do some research into plants that bloom at different times of the year so your garden always has some color in it.
4. Learn a Language
This is a great challenge and perfect for those who are looking to expand their knowledge. It’s also a skill that would look great on your resumé so it’s worth taking the time to teach yourself a new language. There are plenty of online courses and apps you can use, or see if you connect with a tutor to video-chat with for more support as you learn.
5. Handmake Decorations
With the holidays just around the corner, it’s a good opportunity to create some handmade decorations. This is a fun activity for both adults and kids, making it suitable for the whole family. It will also save you money on buying new decorations this year if your current ones are getting worn out. You don’t have to focus on festive decorations, either. If you enjoy being crafty, you could make some cute home décor items to adorn your home as well.
