9 Fun Collections You Can Start

November 30, 2019 by Juliann Leave a Comment

The classic collection item that most people think of when they think of collections is stamps, but what if you aren’t interested in collecting boring old stamps?

You can collect anything you want to. The list is endless. If it makes you happy when you grow the collection, you should collect it.

Even then, when the list is endless, it’s difficult to choose from all of the options and find the one that really speaks to you. If you want to start a collection, but you can’t make a decision on what to collect or you need some inspiration for your collection, then take a look at these ideas.

1. Glasses

The ones you drink from, not the ones you wear on your face. They come in all sorts of different sizes, shapes, colors and designs; they would make for an incredibly varied and unique collection! Tumblers, wine glasses, pint glasses; you name it, you can collect it.

Put them on display in your kitchen cabinets, and all of your guests can admire the collection too.

2. Pin Badges

Pin badges are extremely versatile and a wonderful collection to have. You can either set them up on display in your home on a cork or felt board, or wear them with pride on a bag, t-shirt or jacket! They come with all kinds of fantastic designs and there are even tools you can invest in to create your own.

3. ‘Ugly’ Sweaters

If you have a sweet spot for an ugly sweater, then your collection will probably already be started. Make thrift shopping more fun when you are actively hunting for those sweaters with strange slogans and messages. Break them out at Christmas when even more people are wearing them than usual.

4. Fossils

Fossils can be incredibly rare and unique finds. Learn about the intriguing history of animals and plants long gone and show them off in your home. A megalodon shark tooth makes for great conversation when you have guests over; wow them with your historic collection and knowledge.

You may think that fossils make for an expensive collection, but with so many different types of fossils out there from different periods in time, there is a whole breadth of them to choose from, including more affordable options if that’s what you prefer.

5. Pocket Mirrors

Remember when everyone had a pocket mirror? Pocket mirrors can be cute, compact, or even strangely designed. The world of pocket mirrors is full of special gems. They are a really useful item to take with you on the go, too!

6. Crystals

There are so many kinds of crystals out there, you could even specialize your crystal collection into a specific type of crystal. Whether you love the gorgeous blue hues of aquamarine or the violet shine of an amethyst, crystals are beautiful in every form. Decorate your home with a collection of crystals and give it the sparkle you’ve been waiting for.

7. Vintage Photographs

Vintage photographs are full of history of lives gone by. They can usually be found easily in antique stores and each one has its own story to tell. Check the back of the photograph and there may even be a personal handwritten message that gives you more detail about the photo itself. Vintage photographs are cheap to collect and can give you an insight into those who came before us.

8. Scented Candles

Candles are the perfect finishing touch to any home décor, and they also make for a fun collection. Collect ones of the same scent and compare the differences or go wild and collect any and every candle out there.

A home always smells better with the helping hand of a fresh scented candle from Devon Wick.

9. Movie Posters

If you’re a movie buff, then collecting movie posters is the way to go. Movie posters are intricately designed works of art that often get overshadowed by the movie itself.

Appreciate the hard work, effort and creativity that has gone into movie posters by collecting them. If you frame them, they also work as a sophisticated piece of décor. Either way, a collection of movie posters will make you appreciate the work of the graphic design artists even more than ever.

Starting a collection is a wonderful hobby to have. There is often a community that goes along with certain types of collections, so it will even give you the chance to make strong connections with people who have the same interests as you which could last a lifetime.
