Five Tips to Keep Your Car in Top Shape

January 28, 2021 by Juliann

Keeping your car well-maintained is extremely important if you want to have a healthy relationship with driving. If you don’t take care of your vehicle, you are likely to run into expensive problems later down the road. That’s why, whether you have just bought a car or wondering why your old one always feels rundown, here is an essential guide for you. Here are five key tips for keeping your car in top shape.

Regular Cleaning

Keeping your car clean is not only a great way to keep it healthy and avoid any nasty long-lasting damage, but it can also assert your vehicle as a personal point of pride. It is recommended to wash your car at least once every couple of weeks, especially now during the coronavirus pandemic. You can either do it yourself with a bucket, sponge and plenty of cleaning liquids, or you can enjoy the thrill of attending a car wash on the way to work!

Change Brake Fluid

The worst tragedy that can befall you when driving is to have your brakes suddenly fail, especially while driving along a busy road. That’s why it is recommended to change your brake fluid at least once every two years. This can be changed to even shorter intervals if you are regularly driving long distances. If so, then it’s recommended to change it every 45,000 miles. You can either do this service yourself or visit a special service that can take care of it with a particular brake flushing machine. If something seems particularly wrong with your brakes that cannot be fixed with a simple fluid change, then you can visit hgperformance.co, who will happily take care of all your car servicing needs.

Change The Oil

To keep your car in good shape, it is recommended to change the oil at least once every 3,000 miles. This is an easy enough procedure that most people manage to do on their own. First you will have to jack the car up and open it before unplugging and draining it. Then you replace the old filter, fill it up with fresh oil before checking the levels are ok and if there are any nasty leaks.

Weather Protection

No matter where you live, your car will need to be protected against the elements. If you live in a hot area, it is recommended to keep your car in the shade to protect against the rays of the sun. Conversely, in snowy areas, you can put a simple cover on your windshields in order to protect them against the effects of ice and snow. Additionally, make sure that you have the right gear and supplies stocked in your car in case of sudden changes in the weather!

Maintain the Tires

Tires bear the full brunt of driving. It’s worth keeping an eye on whether they are fully pumped and working to a good standard, because if not, you could get into a nasty accident while on the road. Make sure they are the right depth tread as this is part of federal and state law. Additionally, always remember to keep a spare tire in the back in case of any disasters. Not only is this a legal requirement, but a great habit to keep in mind if you accidentally blow a tire.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
