3 Ways Drinking More Water Can Improve Your Health

April 9, 2023 by Juliann

You know you should be drinking water; experts recommend you drink at least two liters a day. Of course, it can be easier said than done, especially on cold days when drinking water doesn’t seem particularly appealing.

However, discovering that the human body is 60% water will help you try to drink more. The fact that it is instrumental in moving nutrients into cells and toxins out is also an incentive. But you may not have realized that drinking more water can actually improve your health.

Quality Matters

People are becoming more aware of what they are putting in their bodies and this doesn’t just apply to the foods you eat. There has been a dramatic increase in recent years in having a reverse osmosis filter fitted. RO, as it is also known, removes minerals, chemicals, and heavy metals from your water.

Despite the fact that water is treated at a central processing plant minerals and other contaminants can get into the water after the plant before it reaches your home. In addition, the plant adds chemicals to kill bacteria and improve bone health, even though these may have health complications of their own.

1. Energy Levels

When you drink more water your cells are hydrated and the process of delivering nutrients/ removing toxins is made easier. This effectively means your cells are capable of working faster and for longer, boosting your energy levels.

At the same time, cold water entering your body needs to be heated to body temperature. Your body burns calories while doing this, increasing your metabolic rate and making you feel more energetic.

2. Improved Mood

Dehydration affects the ability of all your cells to function, including those in your brain. When your brain cells are dehydrated you’ll experience brain fatigue. This often transpires as brain fog, an inability to focus on a specific task, and you are more likely to feel confused.

In fact, it can even affect your short-term memory, making you feel groggy and it can even lead to increased anxiety and anger.

But drink enough and you’ll feel positive, more able to deal with issues, and generally feel good about life.

3. Weight Control

We all know that weight control is essential to help you enjoy a high-quality life in later years. Being overweight contributes to many health issues. But, what you may not know is that many of the times you feel hungry you are actually thirsty.

By drinking more and staying hydrated you’ll find you feel hungry less often, allowing you to maintain your proper weight and stay healthy. This is essential if you want to enjoy good health in your later years.

Don’t forget, while water is best you can make it more appealing by adding fruit to the water or even indulging in a cup of tea. Water is in most drinks you consume, providing they are not packed with sugars you can mix it up a little or you can also buy fruit-infused water that’s free from sugar or preservatives to make staying hydrated more interesting and achievable.

About This Blog

Juliann, founder of Beautiful Moms

Welcome to Beautiful Moms!

Hi! I'm Juliann, wife of 33 years to Jon, a mom to four amazing children, and a proud grandma to five precious little ones. I live in Oregon.

When I started Beautiful Moms in 2008, my goal was to connect with other moms who were also raising young children. It became a creative outlet for me to share my thoughts on motherhood, review products I loved, and work with brands that help make family life a little easier.

More importantly, I wanted moms to feel seen. It's so easy to lose ourselves in the demands of caring for everyone else and forget that our own well-being matters, too. Every mom deserves to feel beautiful, valued, and appreciated, no matter what stage of motherhood she's in.

Over the years, Beautiful Moms has evolved right along with me. My children are now all grown up, and I'm blessed to be a grandma.

Life changes so quickly

One thing that hasn't changed is my passion for encouraging other moms—it's simply expanded to include every season of motherhood—from pregnancy and baby's first years to raising teens, becoming an empty nester, navigating healthy aging, and everything in between.

Myelie, contributor at Beautiful Moms

I'm excited to have my daughter, Myelie, join the Beautiful Moms team as a new contributor. As the mom of a newborn and a busy toddler, she brings a fresh perspective on modern motherhood.

She lives in Alabama with her military husband, so she also understands the unique challenges of military life, frequent moves, and building a happy home wherever life takes you.
