Fun Ways to Reward Your Kid for Good Behavior

December 2, 2021 by Juliann Leave a Comment

Every parent knows the stress that comes from disciplining a child. There might be tears, tantrums, and an entire day overshadowed by bad moods. While discipline is important, you should also remember to reward your kid’s good behavior, too.

You might wonder how exactly to do that. Do you buy them a bunch of candy that’ll make them run wild, or do you promise them that Santa will bring an extra present? For some fun rewards that will make your kids want to keep being good, read on.

Visit the Local Museum

A kid’s reward can be fun for both parent and child. Visiting a museum is both educational and exciting and will show your little one that good behavior leads to interesting trips out. Plus, the treat doesn’t have to end once you’ve soaked up all the museum has to offer – you can then go for ice cream or a milkshake the finish the day perfectly.

Rosette Award Ribbons

It’s not always that you have to reward your little one with an item or experience that has a monetary value. It can be something cute and cool that they can treasure and display in their room, scrapbook, or album. For example, you can give them custom-printed rosette ribbons for their achievement! Give it to them every time they complete a task and let them know that they can collect the ribbons to exchange for a bigger reward at the end of the month or year.

Buy Them Something New

Is there an item your kid has wanted for a long time? Perhaps a toy, a video game, or an item of clothing? Show them that they’ve been good by letting them have it. If they haven’t expressed what they want, surprise them with something you pick out. These cute flutter sleeve shirts are absolutely adorable!

Have an Arts and Crafts Day

Arts and crafts are fun for any kid, so get the newspapers out and set up a crafting station at your kitchen table. You could make tons of cool stuff together, from Christmas decorations to memory-filled scrapbooks. Not only will your kid love getting creative, but they’ll also get to enjoy your undivided attention.

Watch a Kid’s Movie at the Cinema

It’s not every day that a kid gets to go to the cinema, so the next time they are well behaved, ask them if there’s anything they want to see. Make it even more exciting by betting popcorn, soda, and candy to munch on while you enjoy the latest family-friendly flick. You never know, you might end up enjoying it just as much as they do!

Decorate Their Bedroom

One of the best rewards a child can receive is a freshly decorated bedroom. Whether your kid wants pink walls, a dinosaur bed cover, or a cute dressing table, let them choose how they want their bedroom and then make it happen. There are lots of DIY tricks to make it cheaper on the wallet!

Bake Together

What’s better than eating a sweet treat? Making it first. A day of baking is great fun – almost as fun as getting to eat the cookies you’ve spent all day working on! Not only is baking together a great reward, but your kid will learn essential life skills along the way, such as patience and precision.

Invite Their Friends Over

Another way to show your little one that they’ve been good is by letting them invite a friend over for an afternoon. Don’t just invite them over, either – go all out by making some delicious snacks or ordering a pizza for them to enjoy in between playing together. Both your child and their friend will have a great time! Plus, it might give you an afternoon off in the future when the friend returns the favor.

Let Them Stay Up an Extra Twenty Minutes

Routine is essential for children. Now and again, though, it’s good to show your kid that you value their responsibility by letting them stay up with the adults for a little longer. It needn’t be long – an extra twenty minutes of watching TV with their parents will make them feel like a grown-up! It’s better to do this on a weekend so that they don’t feel too tired for school the next day.

Snuggle Up for a Movie Night at Home

Treating your little one doesn’t always have to involve spending money or spending a whole day doing an activity – sometimes, it’s enough to stick on their favorite movie and snuggle up under some blankets. Order a takeaway and get some sweet snacks, and call it a perfect night in. Just be sure to let your kid choose the movies. After all, it’s their reward!

Let Them Choose

Show your kid that good behavior equals more freedom by letting them choose the reward they receive. Maybe they want to get a new outfit for an upcoming party, or maybe they want to visit the fair that’s in town that weekend. By letting them choose, you ensure that they truly enjoy themself.
