How can a Supermom Ease the Feeling of Emotional Exhaustion?

March 1, 2022 by Juliann Leave a Comment

Emotional exhaustion is a state of feeling emotionally drained due to personal or professional life stress. It is one of the early signs of burnout and causes the overwhelming feeling of being “stuck.”

A mother tends to wear different hats to make sure that her family stays happy and healthy. However, all the responsibilities leave zero to minimal time for mothers to focus on themselves. As a result, they feel stressed out and emotionally exhausted.

In a survey, the women residing in New York (NYC) reported that their signs of exhaustion begin with physical fatigue. Headaches, upset stomach or indigestion, or trouble sleeping indicates exhaustion. If not paid attention to the signs on time, these can affect a mother’s health to a great extent.

Now, the question is- How to deal with emotional exhaustion? Continue reading to find out!

Understand The Triggers

Everyone experiences emotional distress differently. Some people may start to overthink everything, while some may feel “unheard.” Likewise, the things or situations that may trigger stress are also different for everyone. It may be due to the kid’s education, career, or household chores. Understanding the triggers and how they are related to motherhood helps take the proper measures.

Follow A Healthy Lifestyle

A healthy lifestyle such as eating nutritious food, exercising on a daily basis, and socializing helps reduce stress. Obviously, these changes are not easy to implement and take time to adapt. However, the results of a healthy lifestyle are visible within a few days. It’ll help you with sleeping issues, boost the mood and promote a sense of wellness.

Consult A Therapist

Sometimes the cause of distress is deep-rooted, impacting the thinking and behavior pattern. Such scenarios make it necessary to call for cognitive behavioral therapy or cbt therapists nyc for help. The psychologist may ask you a few questions to help you understand your situation and recommend treatment accordingly.

In addition to emotional distress, cognitive therapy also helps with other mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), compulsive behaviors, or more.

Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a buzzword you’ll find all over the internet. But what does it exactly mean? It is a type of meditation that promotes self-awareness and helps in balancing emotions. It is a scientifically proven technique to divert your attention from negative thoughts and stress. There are numerous ways in which you can practice mindfulness, such as yoga, breathing exercises, walking, or writing a journal.

Take A Break

Last but not least, taking regular breaks from everyday life can also help you de-stress. You can go out for a picnic, watch a movie or take a vacation- anything that helps you break the regular routine. You can also ask your family and friends for help with childcare. Remember that these small steps will help a lot.

Wrapping It All Up

Mothers tend to prioritize the needs of their kids and family. But, if it leads to stress or poor health, taking a break and consulting the professionals becomes a must. Putting a lot of pressure on oneself only drains the energy. Therefore, it becomes critical to prioritize one’s own health before others.
