Decor Tips For Your Child’s Bedroom

October 6, 2022 by Juliann Leave a Comment

Creating a fun space for your child to grow and play in is a fun experience, albeit a challenging one for new and experienced parents alike. After all, it’s no easy task creating a functional and enjoyable space that your child will love for years.

That said, we’ve gathered a few handy décor tips for you to use in your child’s bedroom, to create a fun and engaging space for them, whilst still keeping the room functional.

Decorate For Use at Day and Nighttime

One thing parents often overlook when decorating their children’s rooms is that they need the room to be functional at daytime and nighttime. At night, your little one will obviously want a dark and cosy space to sleep in, but during the daytime they’ll want a bright open space to play in.

While this is easy to overlook, it’s equally as easy to fix. The main issue for a room working at day and night is often lighting, so make sure the room has plenty of lights and a set of blinds that will keep the room dark at night and light in the day like a set of dual blinds.

Leave Plenty of Floorspace for Play

As we mentioned in the last point, your child’s bedroom will also serve as a play space for them a lot of the time, meaning that they need space to play within the room itself, so overloading the room with furniture can cramp the room up and remove space for play.

So, when decorating and furnishing the room, you should be mindful of floorspace and incorporate elements which will open up more floorspace such as bunkbeds or wall mounted storage. Solid bunk beds are perfect for saving space, allowing for more play area and also providing a secure sleeping solution that withstands the energetic play of children.

A good measure to know how much space you’ll need is with a playmat, if there’s enough space to sit a playmat down, there will be enough space for play.

Use Lots of Age-Appropriate Storage

Another aspect of play is allowing your child to have access to their toys and play equipment, allowing them to have access themselves will help encourage independence and good habits such as tidying up. But the storage will need to be age appropriate so that your child can safely access it.

Things like heavy chests or large wardrobes will be hard for young children to access and possibly even dangerous to them, so look for child friendly storage solutions such as small drawers, lightweight chests or shelves installed at a low height.

Incorporate Different Textures

Young children often have a great sense of adventure and curiosity, it can be hard to stoke those feelings when they’re in their bedroom, but by incorporating different textures and feels into their bedroom’s decoration will allow them to discover new feelings and allow their curiosity to flourish at home.

You should look to use as many different textures in your child’s bedroom as you can, using soft furnishings like rugs and blankets to add soft touch, using wooden furniture or natural materials like linen to provide rugged and grainy textures, and smooth materials like plastics or linoleum to provide smooth textures for your child to explore.
